this guy has taken more than his fair share of punishment...everybody makes mistakes, its called being human. People kill others and get less punishment, give him a break, this guy has lost pretty much all of his sponsers and im pretty sure he regrets his desion....so just worry about your own problems!
don't care who or what you did before hand, if you were part of the riots that ruined our city and reputation, i have no respect for you and you deserve nothing but the full punishment of the law.
YEA!!!! He solely ruined it! it is all alex's fault you are sooooooooo right!!! i'm sure all the druggies and gang warfare are just f*cking awesome for Vancouvers reputation!!!!
omit to what you've done wrong, serve you punishment, then you can start regaining respect. did he omit himself to VPD? no. Has he gone to court, no. has he had any form of legal punishment, no. therefore, i have no respect. If i went outside right now and flipped your car, id be arrested and sent to jail, go to court and id be doing some short of punishment, either time or community.
He is lucky his truck didn't get flipped while he was out riding. Wouldn't that suck to come back to find your truck had been flipped and burned up with a bunch of bike parts and tools in the back of it, maybe even a complete bike or two? It's cool though, he probably has insurance on it.
If you were there and it really bother you why didn't you try and do something instead of taking pics? Glad Alex was able to learn from his mistakes and continue ripping.
I was there taking pics, we thought about trying to do something to try and stop it until we saw someone else try the same thing, he was really f*&king lucky to get away.
Observers in my opinion are just as guilty as the ones doing it... How would you feel if 50-100 people watched and took pictures while 5-10 people broke into your house and took all your stuff?
most of the people talking shit right now have never, and may never actually meet alex... hes a super nice dude, and a insanely good rider, and an all around badass.... way to put in the work buddy! good to see you back!
Oh ya I forgot...people don't make mistakes, I'm sure your a perfect human being who dose everything right. Alex slipped up, did somthing wrong. What speaks louder then that is the fact he accepted the conciquences and learned from his mistakes. I know Alex personaly and he is such a nice dude not a mean bone in his body.
Ya people make mistakes. And there have been NO criminal consequences yet first of all. And on that note you cannot expect people to FORGET about this even a year or so later. If or when ( hopefully ) charges will happen people will start to be less pissed off at these immature 'grown up adults' that made our whole city look like shit to the whole world. I didnt think it would piss me off so much to see it happen in person, but it did. Especially when NOTHING has happened to them. Absolutly pathetic on everybody's part since it was the first large riot to be fully recorded by cell phones and cameras by thousands.. And if you think I am one of the 'few' who are still this pissed at the WHOLE situation then you are in a whole different world.
I highly doubt any gives a f*ck about this globally compared to our ever so awesome conservative government pulling us out of the kyoto accord.... try caring about some that matters there bud
You have to remember the job he is attempting to have. It is a public relations job where he is asking companies to use his image to help sell their products to us the consumers. His ability to help sell is directly related to what the consuming public thinks of him. As you can see from this comment section, public opinion is mixed. He isn't being prevented from working or following his interests. But asking us to support companies who support him is a stretch in my opinion. I do not want a portion of my hard earned money being directed to him plain and simple. I have sympathy for him, and hope all the best for him.
I might have thought differently if he handled it differently. Basically, he attempted to mislead everyone by saying he posed for the picture and nothing else, then, when further evidence came, became tight-lipped about the whole thing. This is not the image I want to support, or someone I want as a role model for my impressionable children.
Great video Alex!!! Makes me want to put the ski gear back in storage. As for all the people complaining about what happened last spring, I'm fairly certain he has had more than enough punishment so stop beating a dead horse and go and ride your bikes.
It is unfortunate that his participation in the riot was just glossed over. I was really disappointed that a member of our community, especially a high profile pro rider, was helping other lunatics toss some hard-working guy' s truck over. Lots of little groms look up to this guy and the message they got was that if you can rip, you are entitled to get away with nearly everything. Passion for riding aside, how well you ride is of little importance in the grand scheme of things. How you conduct yourself in everyday life including difficult riot type situations is of the upmost importance. Is Alex a douche?....um..yeah...definately. Can he redeem himself? Absolutely, but it won' t happen while ripping around on a bike. I would like to see him man up and do something important for his community to make amends.... I have way more respect for people who accept their mistakes and make a genuine attempt to redeem themselves, but people who sidestep their responsibility and ignore their errors like some petulant child, well I can' t really support them....
To be honest guys I had to Google the Vancouver riots as that one didn't even make the news over here. It's fair enough if your're rioting against the state for f**king things up and generally making life hard for the common man, but it seems that was just plain old sports thuggery. That's the scarey kind as anybody can find themselves caught up in it. We can avoid the goverment riots by not being there, but you can get caught up in that other shit by just going to watch an innocent game of sport. So, whilst trying hard not to be judgemental, it is difficult to defend it if you were involved. Hopefully his involvement was a one off alcohol induced mistake as you'd like that think that people who embrace mountain biking are made of better stuff.
where are you living? it didnt make the news on the island? here in mainland europe news were full of it..may be you just missed it. but anyway, I think to judge him just with this mistake he obviously did is also wrong, he deserves a chance to gain his respect back, although this will take years I guess..
Cheers ashleyren, I was starting to feel a bit ignorant for a while then. I've asked a couple of news watching mates too and they heard nothing. Just shows you that we're sold the news like we are everything else. There was probably some Big Brother- celebrity type sh*te going on then that sold more newspapers.
anyone who is about to say anything bad about him I suggest you look into your past and think about the things you did when you were young. I garantee you have done something equally as dum like driving drunk or getting into fights or smashing windows or going 50 over the speed limit swerving through traffic. Id say any of those things are equally as dum. He's lost all his bike sponsors so Im sure he has no source of income and Im sure he cant show his face in the bike park anytime soon. Id say for someone who's lived and ridden in whistler all his life thats alot worse than paying a dum fine cause lets face it, none of the rioters will go to jail. I know that would be way worse for me...
Oh come on people. A pro football player can run a dog fighting ring and get a slapon the wrist. Bertuzzi can break a guys neck and be back playing hockey the next year. A. It was a car and B. the owner of the car got a brand new car out of the insurance so chill out
vick got years in federal prison for the dog fighting. once he was out of jail the court ordered him to start a animal shelter for abused animals and he continued to work there even after his sentence, he still continues to and donates hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to it, thats why he has gained his respect back.
It's hard to respect someone that doesn't respect others or appreciate how blessed we are to live in this beautiful city called Vancouver. That guy who's truck he helped flip was a tradie, had all his tools in the back, and no doubt lost a lot of work while he was waiting for insurance to pay up. When a company sponsors you, you are a role model/representative of their company and you have to think about that and act accordingly. I don't think anyone can say he isn't a great rider, but this is a good example to show young riders wanting to turn pro and the responsibility that goes along with being in the public eye. It's simple people, do onto others what you would like to be done onto yourself.....
HaHaHa lovin the burn's all so true. But he's a ripper no two way's about it.And we all f*$k up that's all in the past. What matter's is what he's doing now.
Alex was a scapegoat in the whole riot incident. His biggest drawback was that he was a known person when that happened. There are hundreds of people that were doing way worse and will never have to answer for it because they have never done anything worthy of notoriety. It is the city of Vancouver's fault for not being prepared for what everyone knew what was going to happen. As for the people who got their cars flipped, they parked them there for a reason. I saw a parking lot filled with 4 different hummers that were effed up. Coincidence? Don't think so. They got what they wanted when they parked their vehicles there.
On another note, this video is sick and his video from Utah last year is off the hook. Can't argue with how strong of a rider he is.
How is it that pretty much every person in bc knew that those riots were going to happen, and the city of Vancouver are claiming they had no idea it was going to turn out like that...? Every news report for weeks leading up to the finals were re-hashing the 94 riots, putting that idea in everyone's head. People came from all over BC to be in the riots, or at least have a front row seat while they were happening. Downtown hotels changed their policies for that night. EVERYONE knew, except the people in power, weird..
And I would say 90% of the people who parked their vehicles there wanted them messed up. I know some people who did on purpose, and I had also contemplated that idea because I KNEW THERE WAS GOING TO BE A RIOT.
he rioted....so did half of vancouver. lets be real guys if any of you were down there when it was happening you'd likely take a picture infront of a burning car too. He paid his dues for what he did, lost sponsors and fans, this is a sick video and any one who can't look past it is a jealous haterrrr.
Half of vancouver rioted?! More like 200-300 people rioted. I would't say I'm a jelous hater of this guy. I'm dissapointed because he participated in destroying our city. Trust me I was downtown for game 7 and had no desire to go get a picture in front of a burning car.
I was down there too. Nothing has happened to any of them so do not go saying he has paid his dues. And yes it was maybe 200-300 people or whatever. And not everyone had a pic taken in front of cars. If u did ur a d-bag. Some people like me took pics of the d-bags to try and catch them.
in all honesty, the people standing around and watching and taking pictures were an issue too. Made the riot way more difficult for the police to access and disperse the actual rioters.
Are you kidding? You kids are really looking for anything to villainize this rider. Get over yourselves and realize that you all look like judgmental jackasses for basing your opinions off ONE picture of someone that was posing- not causing damage, during a time when many of your fellow Canadians were acting like idiots. What ever happened to innocent till proven guilty? Or has it magically changed to, a photo means you're guilty of the worst crimes. It's funny how you all support fellow riders until they get into slightly murky waters then you all turn into holier-than-thou pussies. People taking and posing for pictures were obstructing justice and peace? Wow.... hahahaha
well they read the riot act, so technically yeah it was obstructing justice. by taking pictures of the gong show you're kind of encouraging it. riot talk aside, good work on the vid, hope to see more good things from alex.
@scott-townes, Theres actually a picture of him helping flip over the truck. How else do you think he got covered in shit from the bottom of a vehicle?
Before you judge anyone else, better make sure you got your facts straight numbnuts.
And for all the people above who argue, "well everyone else was doing it" that is the worst excuse ever. No, it isn't hard to just walk away from a riot. He is an awesome rider but might be lacking in the common sense department. (Of course anyone who rides that crazy can arguably have a screw loose.)
Doesn't fit it? I was super excited to hear some Waylon Jennings, it's a nice change of pace. Its about time that a movie had some music that WAS NOT dubstep.. I cannot believe how awful some of the music in some of the edits I have seen has been.
sorry guys i think waylon is great i was just so caught up in the mainstream shit that i couldn't tell what real music was. i watched it again and, "it fits like a glove"
Alex pro's the man and he kills it on a bike..! Who cares if he was one of the few thousand ppl in the riot.. im sure if you were in that situation you guys would do the same!
So you're basically saying that if you were in that situation or in that case riot, you would join the hundreds of scumbags that destroyed those businesses, wrecked their own city and made Vancouver look like a laughing stock to the world.
