Four Hundred Racers Compete at Canada Cup and BC Cup Downhill and Cross Country Finals

Chayse Marshall heads to World Championships in Australia

A shifting problem and a crash on the downhill course didn’t stop Sun Peaks sponsored rider Chayse Marshall from pinning it down the Canada Cup DH Course in less than four minutes over the weekend during the championship event.

Marshall finished with a time of 3:55.07 in the Canada Cup Elite Class, seconds behind another Sun Peaks local, Justin Terwiel who finished with a time of 3:51.14. Taking first place in the Elite Class was Jack Reading, Huddersfield, UK, with a time of 3:39.98, in second place was Curtis Keene, Fremon, CA, at 3:41.72, and in third was Tyler Morland, Whistler, BC, with a finish time of 3:42.03.

While disappointed with his finish, Marshall was happy the crash happened during the Canada Cup event, and not at the 2009 Mountain Bike World Championships he is attending for the first time in Canberra, Australia. “It’s amazing to have the kind of support that I do,” said Marshall. “Sun Peaks and the Kamloops' community have made it possible for me to be a dedicated athlete.” Marshall was one of close to 400 riders competing in the downhill and cross country events at the interior resort over the weekend.
