Australian BMX world champion fighting for his life after jumping from balcony into a pool (but missing) in daredevil stunt

A world champion BMX bike rider is in a critical condition in hospital after trying to jump into a swimming pool from a balcony - and missing. Australian Dane Searls, who was celebrating a new riding record, hit the concrete beside the pool head first, suffering severe head and back injuries. Just 48 hours earlier, 23-year-old Mr Searls had created a new dirt bike world record with a series of four jumps across wide gaps.

Extreme sportsman hurt in balcony dive - BMX star in coma after missing pool
Extreme sportsman Dane Searls is in a coma with severe head and back injuries after trying to jump into a pool from the balcony of a Gold Coast nightclub. BMX rider Dane Searls risked life and limb on Friday to set a world record jumping gaps of up to 18 metres, but it was his celebrations 48 hours later that left him in a coma fighting for his life. Searls, 23, was partying at Billy’s Beach House in Surfers Paradise when he tried to dive into a pool from a first floor balcony last night. He missed and instead hurtled head first into the cement below.
