Introducing the Lumberyard

by Tyler Maine
May 11, 2011 at 19:32

The Lumberyard is positioning itself to be the premier indoor bike park operator in the Pacific Northwest. With the initial location slated for Portland, Oregon, the Lumberyard will deliver year-round riding opportunities to fulfill a latent need for recreational cyclists of all types, ages and abilities.

The Lumberyard features beginner/sport/expert sections, a foam pit, rhythm & jump lines, a BMX street park, pump/race tracks, XC loop and much more. It will be more than a riding venue and will serve as a community cycling hub and a world-class training facility. Skills workshops, day camps, private instruction, races/competitions, demo days will all be offered at the Lumberyard. It will include a concession counter with food and drink, a cafe lounge for parents and an event room for special events, parties and club meetings. Additionally, the Lumberyard will have a small retail & service shop, providing replacement parts and rental services for bikes and safety equipment.

Lumberyard MTB, LLC has hired mangai.rollin, a mountain sports marketing agency to handle marketing services and media relations. For additional information, please contact: info@mangai- rollin.com

This has been a LONG time coming in Portland. there are no legal trails here so this is going to help us out!

Now to just get some One Ghost Industries Tanto's in there as rentals!

 Despars,
You just aren't old enough to drive 20 - 60 minutes to get to some of the most epic riding that California has! :-) I'll ask your Dad if you can go with us sometime. Also, sell that beast and get a 6" travel bike and pedal up any of those hills you live right by.

I can describe in TWO WORDS why this place is gonna have a hard time opening ------- FIRE MARSHAL.

There was an wooden indoor skatepark in P-town before that got closed cuz the F.M. wanted a 75,000 dollar sprinkler system installed......(cuz somebody might drop their doobie while riding , I guess)

flag sgsrider (May 24, 2011 at 20:11)
phantom, it hasn't failed skatebarn in seattle yet, nor will it fail lumberyard. the crew in charge is definitely made up of dedicated guys, and wonky, there will be red tape to cut through for sure, but it will be gotten around. Portland needs a place like the lumberyard, and if the matt, will and the in charge have anything to say about it- the place will get built.

Some of the same people involved in the NW school of freeride are involved in this project, and they've got some investors lined up- it will get built.

The two outer jump lines featured at 0:23 are literally the exact same thing as the intermediate and expert lines at Rays.... a LOT of other stuff looks extremely similar as well, especially the little skatepark style area. Come on, guys.

awesome, nice to see city officials are allowing somebody to do something rad. unlike Spokane, WA. city officials who are too busy sucking eachothers c#%ks to want to do anything else like let some people open an indoor bike park in any one of the many long time vacant buildings here. guess some cities are just better than others. no wonder mine has the nick name "methlehem."
