Peaty deserved this win. After so many years of missing out on it, yet still dominating he finally got the win that matters most. Much respect to Steve, and please don't retire after this win. The DH racing scene wouldn't be the same without you mate.
is it just me or has sam hill started to go downhill this series?
(like wat i did ther?
)
no but really-last year he dominated every race, fair enuff now hees always in the top 5 but still i know he can do better-anyways-im glad peaty won-grats peat!

Wait sam is the world cup points leader how can you say hes going bad, yes hes not in the best of form we have seen him in, but getting used to a new bike and sponsor. Surely you cant expect sam to destroy every race he goes in. Everyone has a track they dont like.
this makes me want to see a squeal to 'the tipping point'
next year i think were gonna be looking at Arron Gwin for one of the top spots

Gwin took 3rd @ the Mt. Ste. Anne WC this year, so he is definitely a contender for next year. Still buzzing from the racing - that was some intense sh*t! Yes, Peaty!!!
The only person I REALLY wanted to see knock Hannah out of the hot seat was Peat. I wouldn't have been pissed if it was somebody else, though. That place would have gone nuts if Hannah held on. Granted, it still went nuts after Peaty claimed it.
lol, i only said "nice" because i havent seen the race yet, how can i comment on something i havent seen? wheres the vid?
I had a feeling Peaty was going to win this time I'm so stoked for Peaty to win worlds. This really made my day, WAY TO GO STEVE PEAT!!!!
y did i get neg props for saying something funny??? seriously and what about callums-bighit he only said what he thought!
ok im gonna bag on pinkbike for this one. They didn't even pay tribute to a legend and put out a decent news feed. Even the picture was of sam hill...they put no effort into honoring a great rider who has pushed sooo hard to win through lots of setbacks...no pics, no nothin...good job brule.
you have a point but i think the point of this blog was to just let people know of the results, if im not mistaken, i guarentee you there will be a follow up blog in the next couple of days with pictures and videos

congradulations to steve peat. first time he has won it in whole time he has done downhill. good on ya
Great this is an historic day for Peaty, and all DH riders .. congratulations!!! Greg almost ruined steve's big day haha !.. also .. was the most important race, everybody trying shorter bikes, lock shocks, single crown .. World Champions in every detail (but the track)
you know peaty winning was awesome because the bbc news actually mentioned it... albeit interspersed with comments about downhill, whats that? ohh they go zooming between trees really fast on bicycles.
the news did bout a minute of coverage at like 7 oclock this morning (i was about to go out to work) it was basically like "congratulations to steve peat on becoming the world champion downhill racer" and then they had some comments about what downhill is... the actual race was about 3:00 this morning maybe
good job Peaty!!! he was waiting for this for so long!!! that was intense!!! the hot seat was definitely HOT starting with Brian Lopes! and than Rennie and then Barel!!!
Well done Peat but i am pissed off, got up just now to see if the replay of the race was on only to have "look who's won" plastered everywhere, would have been so much better to watch it. Oh well, should have just ignored sleep.
yeah i know, i saved hearing about it until i got home, load up freecaster and the screen is full of the results. that sucked.

What about the manitoba plow, Jamie Biluk? A prarrie boy finishing 30th, guess the pedally flat section at the bottom reminded him of home
GO Peaty, you've finally done it! All the props in the world to you.
Now you're undisputably the king of downhill

if you go to freecaster's mens replay you can see most of robs run (second rider in the video) and a bit of Deans.
For sure! Top North American as well. Seems like US and Canada showed up for this one more than they have in recent memory!!!

Go Peaty!!!! A shame no Commencal got in the top 3 this year but Steve hunted for years and now he's got the kill. Congratz Steve.
^ Likewise
I'm so happy for him, Peaty's been desperately wanting the champs since he started racing and he's never given up, congratulations Steve Peat you deserve it more than anyone.

That race was incredible. Almost nobody fell, and the times were close, which in my opinion makes for the perfect race.
Go Steve, no one deserves to be World Champion more!!!!!!!!!!! JMc would have been proud of you..............

For sure! Had he been riding the Demo, he would have finished out of the top-10. This was not a "Sam Hill course" as it were.

Happy for Steve and also for Rennie. I know he didn't finish as high as he'd like to have, but 7th place is pretty good when you look at the people in front of him - how good they are and how much younger (except Peaty, who clearly has the fountain of youth in his back yard) they all are too. Hope this gets him back into fighting form. Great race, best world champs ever. Graves gets his due in front of a home crowd too and for Steve, anywhere in the world is his home crowd!
hey kids your daddy's F#$*&n world champ!!! congrats to Peaty & the whole Peaty Army!!!!!!!!!! get your drink on PEATY!!!!!

I have been watching Peat since he started long ago and this guy is just amazing showing getting older has no effect on his outstanding performance. He's going to be right up there with the great ones but he hasn't quit yet.

Does anyone else think the course was pretty weak for a DH race? Is that normal for the world champs?
Congrats Peaty! Ya FINALLY did it!!!!!!! And lookin at that!!!!!! STEVE SMITH TOP 10 YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet Wariner is still upside down on a bar room floor right now!!! best sports play by play call I've heard, EVER. listenin' to Rob practically brickin' himself during Peat's run and Minaar's split times will go down legendary for me.
JUST F*n GREAT!
JUST F*n GREAT!
Warner was definitely in the zone. Andrew Neethling's on-air appearance was pretty sweet, too. He definitely knows his sh*t.

congrats to both Steve's, we are all behind you Smith thanks for bringing Canada into the top ten in DH. Can hardly wait for your first win, its coming!
Awesome race...had me on the edge of my seat! These guys are amazing riders and inspire me everyday! I wanted all of them to win, but nobody deserved it more than Sir Steve Peat...he should be knighted by the queen for this

Seriously I am so happy. Didn't watch it at 4am but got up and watched the replay, totally made my day, it's been a long time coming.
No mistake run. Live long king Peat!!! You're a living leyend. I'm glad I had the honor to meet last year. Big mexican fan here!!! Cheers
man... the first 4 were in the same second. I heard Rob Warner (@Freecaster) saying that the times would be close but man... this is so awesome. This really is the best Dh in the world. Cheers again!!!
The race announcer at the finish line spoke to Peat just after he had won. After the quick interview was done, the microphone was left on and those of us standing next to a speaker heard this:
SOMEONE (to Peat): What are you going to do now?
PEAT: Go out and make lots of little Australian babies.

I feel so proud to be british, Peaty displayed true "Heart of the lion" attitude to stomp his way onto that podium, It makes me want to wrap myself up in a St Georges cross and ride through the centre of town wearing only the flag and clutching a pint of ale.
