Anybody else think that course looks like a joke? It's not a trail, it's a field with banners. Yeah, not every course can be Champery or Schladming, but come on, there's better tracks in the world than that.
how you can call this track a 'joke' is crazy, riders are stoked to have a track like this, wide tracks with lots of line choice, technical bits, flowly bits, theres nothing wrong with this track, infact i think it's pretty awesome
nlitworld you obviously havn't done your research. all of the riders are saying they absolutley love it and its one of the steepest and fastest tracks on the world cup this season. certainly not just a field.
Maybe I just associate a World Cup level DH course with something more the caliber of Mt. Ste. Anne or Schladming. It just seemed to me like they found a fairly steep set of fields and backyards and put some banners up it and let the track develop from there. Maybe I'm biased because the first glimpse I saw of the track was a helmet cam that literally made it look like a 3 minute ride down some fields.
yeh i think everyone seen that video and came to assumptions. so did i infact but in reality its hard to get any real idea of what a course is like without actually riding it yourself.
it may just be a feild, but riding feilds is actually realy fun. at the last race ir aced the last section was a feild and it was totaly flat out. the track does looks quite hard due to all the flat corners.
the thing is 'nlitworld' that yeah there are some amazing courses out there that test technical skill and agility but I, and I'm sure I don't just speak for myself, bought a downhill bike to go fast, to get my eyes watering with speed and to be totally flat out, pedal to the metal as hard as you can go....not just dance around trees all the time, sick course, stoked for smith but go gee! haha
i´ve also seen this helmet cam video and was some kind of disappointed, but when I arrived there on friday afternoon I couldn`t believe my eyes that this should be the same track as shown in the vid. To end this discussion, the track was really steep (please believe me) hard and technical, many had problems and many many went down during the weekend. The only thing you can argue about is that it was short by an average time of 2:15
I gotta agree with nlitworld. Not saying that I can ride it faster than the big boys, just that in the essence of DH racing it seems like a pretty lame course. Maybe we just apreciate the more technical side of riding to the flat open speed. Thats all. Either way if given the chance you know I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to ride it!
you need variation too though. some people are more comfortable on fast open stuff, and some in tight stuff etc. compare hill to kovarik for example. this just makes for a more level playing field and it should because for the best downhiller to win the title, he/she needs to be the best at everything.
Its obviously not a crap course because all the riders are loving it. I can tell you now it looks alot better than Pietermaritzburg and Canberra.

By the way...I do not care who win really. All I want is Peaty's win in World Championship this year in Australia
