Black Market Roam - Revisions

Just like the Killswitch before it, the Roam from Black Market Bikes has piqued a lot of interests from the AM crowd that likes to hang it out a little more when they ride. Carter and crew have been hard at work on this new bike and the most recent revisions show great promise.

 Im not knocking black market cause I've never heard anything bad about them. But if this bike had a cannondale or norco sticker on it everyone would say it looks like shit. But I think it's funny that black market has such a big hype that everyones gotta bust a nut when they see one.

 This bike seems like it's confused. 66HA, but only 5.7 of travel? Needs just a little bit more travel a-la Mojo HD or Nomad in my opinion, even 6.7 to step on the feet of the Reign X or old SX. Glad BM is producing trail bikes now, though.

 its a single pivot bike. what makes it different from all the single pivots out there? i like the top tube though. its so low i think the stand over on this baby is one of the best in its class.

 Looks like a good, dependable bike.

Not sure about the micro-adjustable dropouts - I woulda gone for two sets of holes with centres 12mm apart and forget the chain tensioner - unless they are using the same dropouts on a different frame and therefore they are making one set of dropouts for multiple frames.

 What would be the point of having chain tugs on the dropouts on this bike? It's not possible to run it single speed (because of chain growth throughout the stroke) without a chain tensioner anyway... right?

 Yes, you are correct. There is quite a bit of chain growth with a high single pivot such as this, therefore you would need a tensioner. The tugs would allow for chainstay adjustment. Pull 'em out for a faster, more stable bike. Tug 'em in for a a tight, poppy bike.

 It's an overlap fit adjustable dropout. The bolts that move the dropout are there because the first prototype drops where hard to pull back and forth just with the two bolts. The adjuster bolt creates and easy fine adjustment without the "look" of having one. It has nothing to do with single speed tension. The drops will also come in a through axle/Maxle fit threads.

 With a worthy pilot behind the bars,i've no doubt whatsoever that this bike could have endurance DH events the world over totally owned.Not to mention the Megavalanche,and related races.This is one of the best mountain bikes i've seen in a long while,just pure beautiful.

 joe i disagree it seems similar to a bottle rocket in that manor. Bottle rocket has 5.5in and a 67ha plus it seems like its more meant for someone that wants a bike that will be light and okay to climb but still be a blast dh

 Mm, I'm going to agree with you kevron711, saint looks a bit overkill, I guess there might be a couple of 'build kits' released like a few companies are doing now, so they might do a more freeride orientated one (setup above perhaps) for hitting parks with, but that taking up the hill wouldn't be impossible, then they might wang a load of SLX on one lighten it up a bit and make it a bit more of an all rounder Smile Looks sick whichever way you look at it!

 Its not so much that the saint groupo is overkill, maybe when they release it there will be saint with the coil version, and then slx or something with the air shock?

Either way it does look amazing...and super slack!

 There was a Blkmrkt rep parked next to our tent at a local DH race, he let us ride this bike around, I seriously loved it! Very nimble and a nice amount of travel, the first time you swing your leg over it feels like its been your bike for 2 years!

 Its true, they aren't too heavy for their strengtht, but say theres a sorta 'required strength of kit' rating for kit on bikes, a DH bikes kit would need to be 9/10 and a halfords bike (Americans/Canadians dunno if you know halfords, they're mass produced toy bikes) would need to be 1. Are you going to be riding this bike to a 10/9 strength level, or actually to a 7/8 level tops, the SLX cranks are probably around 7/8 in the grand scheme of things, so why go for heavier burlier (and ultimately more expensive) cranks when they'll do the same job on that bike? Its just my opinion, hope I've explained it properly! haha Smile

 well explained. the only reason i can think of is that thats the top spec model for people who want the best (lets face it, its sexy) but i guess there will be equally capable lower spec models, like with domains and SLX/strokers rydes etc

dont like the short stroke shock... 2" stroke seems short by todays standards for a 6inch bike would really work an air can on a long run,

something the change for the mk2 i guess.

 That looks sooooo awesome! So simple yet. In the era of "not_sure_we_need_that_much_tech" bikes that looks spot on. As with killswitch: a capable bike-masterpiece pretender.

One thing though. Top tube looks pretty short. Good for FR and miniDH but one might feel a bit crumped when the time comes to put some power down or have some good pressure on the front on tech trails. But well maybe downward movement was the main thought.

 It's the bike of my dreams, but it is still overly swoopy like an SX. Those are feminine lines....not something I want on my bike. The green and yellow CAD models look a lot better than the black.

 I dunno, I don't think its anywhere near as swoopy, this looks quite sleek, like it just gives you more standover height without making an odd looking toptube and seat mast reinforcement thing. The new SX's (09 and newer) just look like they've been left in the sun too long Wink haha

 the point is that it's aesthetically out of place with the rest of the bike. the sx's are justified with their reasoning, and understandably so. turndown's and clearance, great pro's for a fr bike, why on an am bike that's meant for heavy use... the cad drawings were simple and clean.

 The first protos came with that awful bend at the top tube and was a mistake by the manufacture. It was never the intent to have the "swoop"

 There are so many choices out there, this looks like it fits right in line with a Scratch, built and comfortable on free ride, but capable of AM. I would stick with the Scratch as my personal choice. Good looking bike though, but if it pedals like a new SX trail, it is not meant to go uphill, capable and meant to, are two different things.

 Looks sweet! Although what's the purpose of the adjustable dropouts? At first glance they don't make sense to me unless the dropouts were horizontal and the frame would work with a single speed setup.

 BottleRockets are awesome. Owned one for 3 years. Not so great at the up,however fan bloody tastic at the downs and on jumps. Take a little getting used to if you move from a proper DH bike. If you are mainly doing shuttles/lifts then go the Rocket.

 The Bottle Rocket is more simple. The whole big CNC part of the Roam looks like it will hold all the dirt from the trail. The hammer link, is just another single pivot design. And physically, there is no reason for those curved top- and downtube (for all frames).

 They are made of a carbon fibre just fit over the hole, screw at the top one on each side.

 Also there is no need for the top tube to be so low just under the seatpost... its should be lower where you need it to be lower (check the new Demo)
