From Freestyler To Racer, Strait Upsets Lopes in Finals
An amazing sunset through the clouds set the dramatic stage on a Dual Slalom course built to perfection. Slopestyle heavyweight Kyle Strait, back on the race scene this year, upset Brian Lopes to win the 2009 Kokanee Crankworx Dual Slalom. The gates dropped to fast-paced action and big crashes, proving once again the Dual Slalom is a crowd pleaser.

With Strait having only a slight lead going into the final lap, it was anyone’s race. When the dust settled and it was all over, Strait had the upset, continuing his comeback and proving he is both a top racer and freestyler.
“I just rode as fast and as smooth as I could. You can’t think too much about the race, you need to just ride,” says Strait. “It’s awesome to get a good result like this.”
Now in its third season at Kokanee Crankworx, the Dual Slalom and its head-to-head format with riders pumping through rhythm sections and ripping through tight berms, makes for non-stop action from start to finish.
In the Pro Men category, Kyle Strait took first place, Brian Lopes took second place, Johannes Fischbach took third and Neko Mullaly took fourth.
In the Pro Women category, Jill Kinter finished first, Fionn Griffiths finished second, Micayla Gatto finished third and Melissa Buhl finished fourth.
The Dual Slalom kicked off opening day at Kokanee Crankworx 2009. Day two of the eight day Crankworx Festival includes the Monster Energy Garbanzo Downhill and the Ken Quon Cross-Country Event as well as a massive village wide demo and expo for all to enjoy.

atta kid
I will get slaughtered for this but, yes he is a well rounded rider but not 'the' most well rounded rider! and were you meaning fat as rounded or a good bike rider?
ye, to be honest, i'd gee atherton was a more all round rider, just he puts downhill first, but can easily do well at a slopestyle event
Sick race Neko! What is he, like 16 now!!! I would like to see one of those boys beat Lopes in the A-Line race next!
yer, nobody says he has done one, but thats because as i already said he concentrates on racing more and being a top world cup racer, he doesnt have the time to learn or risk injury learning
kyle is a way better slopstyle rider then gee could ever be face it,kyle is one of the best al around riders, maybe not the best but one of them and i honestly cant think of anyone actualy all around better then him the only thing gee has on him is racing, kyle is still a heck of a racer and owns him all other aspects, excpet maybe xc
gee atherton and kyle strait are both very well rounded riders they just happened to be more rounded in different areas, gee is a very good downhiller and is also fairly damn good at 4x and at rampage.. kyle is good at slopestyle and other things... they're both top athletes but in seperate areas, downhill fans will probably say gee's better, slopestyle fans will say kyles better... but we all know they're both better than we'll ever be.
Well Rounded? Kyle Strait is a fatty that's for sure......
Gee on the otherhand looks like a stretch arm strong thats been left in the sun too long. Therefore Kyle Strait is the more rounded rider.

I dont think you can say Gee is better at Rampage than Kyle Strait seeing as Strait has won rampage and Gee hasn't.
Overall I'd say they are pretty well matched, Gee is better at DH & 4X etc. but Kyle isn't to shabby at them either as his slalom results show, and Kyle beats Gee when it comes to tricks, but Gee can do a bunch of tricks too inluding flips and t-whips etc.

I wouldn't say Kyle is "fat" you guys... ever met him? He's definately a solid guy, but I wouldn't say fat... challenge him to an arm wrestle next time you see him around Whistler
congratulations kayodic kyle! takes the win by beating out an absolute legend. shit the front door man!

Lopes must have dropped his old age pension check and went back for it, no way Lopes lets anyone beat him straight up. hahaha
I was at this race, wow its so fast.... the riding is so precise its down to whoever doesn't make any mistakes. Kyle Strait is impressive to see riding this stuff, he is bigger than you think.

Great racing to watch. Some photos of the race and some of practice in my Kokanee Crankworx 2009 album.
