BC’s draft Trail Strategy – the future of our trails is now!

Last editted Feb 20, 2009 at 16:48
by Ryan Kuhn

It’s a good time to be a mountain biker in BC. In just about every community across the province trails are being developed and enhanced, providing seemingly endless options for all levels of riders. Many are developed by enthusiastic local trail builders with the best of intentions, be it to push the limits of rider ability or simply provide more quality choices for the after work or weekend rip.

However, many of our trails are not “legitimate”…and the province has taken notice. Driven by a need to address the liability of such trails – and the recognition of the health, economic, social, cultural/heritage and environmental benefits – BC has created a draft Trails Strategy to better manage trail use and recreation in the future.

Listen up, because this will have an impact on what, and how, you build and maintain trails the near future and beyond.

Getting started – Base training

If you haven’t put in the effort to get fit this off season, now is the time. Mountain biking is an extremely technical sport so even if you are the fittest person in the world, it doesn’t mean you’ll be winning world cups. But, it will play a huge role in helping you ride longer, faster, stronger and most importantly, recover quicker.

Mike Hopkins' Site Update

Last editted Jan 21, 2009 at 11:39
Ever wonder who the guy in the Titec or Scott USA ads is that is sending it super large? Chances are you were looking at a shot of Mike Hopkins as he's the quiet guy from Rossland BC that loves to charge and send it in front of the lens. Mike not only kills the freeride scene, but he's one hell of a big mountain skier too!

I was just checking out his site and you should too!

This summer has seemed like a never ending bike trip. As soon as I am done one thing, it is on to the next. Fortunately the next thing up was a Mace gear photo shoot in a place called Blue River B.C. Granted, Blue River is not the biggest town in the world, but from what I was hearing there has been some awesome activity on trail building and I was pretty pumped to go see what had been going down.

Pics and video inside!

PaintHouse Custom Painting does up a Pinkbike Helmet

Last editted Dec 4, 2008 at 14:44
I first met Stacy Glaser and a whole band of riders that were all on HUKK bikes a few years ago at the Red Neck Rumble toonie races on Vedder Mountain. We always run into each other on the trails and recently he informed us that he had started to Airbrush helmets when not out riding. After a quick talk and throwing around a few ideas, we shipped him a helmet and he did it up for us!

Read on to check it all out and to hear a bit from Stacy himself:
