Ibis Mojo – All Mountain Build

Last editted Mar 28, 2009 at 19:00
With my want to get out and ride around in the woods more and more these days and not just via shuttles, I felt it time to build up a proper All Mountain (AM) bike. Last season I did up a few “wolves in sheep’s clothing” AM type builds, but this year I wanted to do it right. To begin I had to find the right tool for the job. Enter Ibis and their Mojo.

Read on to see how the build shaped up.

Last editted Feb 16, 2009 at 10:47
From deep inside the bowels of Freeride Entertainment comes the Red Bull Rampage – The Evolution on DVD. A few nights ago I had the opportunity to sit down with Big D, Axl, Lunchbox Larry, Brad, Leroy Brown and a few other great Freeride employees to watch a teaser copy of the newest Westerlund creation and let me tell you what – It’s off the hook!

Here are my thoughts on the new flick and the contest that defines Freeride Mountain Biking:

The Intense SS - Versatile builds make it a Swiss Army knife of a bike

Last editted Dec 8, 2008 at 14:16
This season I have spent the vast majority of my riding days on one bike (which is unheard of for me) and I have to say that I've had a pretty great season. Typically I've had a small stable of bikes that accommodated a variety of riding styles, but this season I decided to try what most people have to do and ride the same bike all the time. The Intense SS was the frame I chose to start with for a variety of reasons, the biggest being its versatility in regards to build up options.

Have a look at the Intense SS in a Freeride and in a All Mountain build form inside:

Shimano Custom Fit SPDs

Last editted Nov 21, 2008 at 18:27
When is comes to clipless shoes and pedals, the first name that always comes to mind is Shimano for me and for good reasons too. Shimano was the first clipless pedal I ever saw in the early 90's and I owned some of their shoes in the late 90's. With 20 years of shoe making under their soles, Shimano brought forth the Custom Fit SPD Program a little over a year ago. For 2009, they have 8 models and I'll be rocking the M230s.

Check out the process I got to go through to have my Shimano M230 shoes Custom Fit at Dizzy Cycles.

Project Ride to Work

Last editted Nov 15, 2008 at 17:07
Our wet as hell version of winter is fully upon us here on the Wet Coast of British Columbia and I'm not stoked on it. But I've recently moved a lot closer to work and I'm thinking that driving that short distance no longer makes a lot/any sense unless I am absolutely going to require my truck that day. With that in mind, I've to started commuting to work again like I did from time to time while I lived in Calgary. Turns out next week (November 17-23) is actually the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition's Bike to Work Week. Here is my set up that I am currently running and will make changes to as the winter gets worse and I remember what all is needed to make the ride more enjoyable on all these wet days.

Read on and join me next week for Ride to Work Week where ever you live,

Devinci Bikes - 100% Canadian - Factory Tour Part 2

Last editted Nov 12, 2008 at 16:21
In the last feature we showed you how a bike gets designed and the testing it undergoes in order to become the best it can be for you and I when it's time to purchase it. In this article, we'll show you exactly what goes on from taking the aluminum tubes and chunks of billet, to machining them into hand built Canadian bikes. And we'll even show you a nice history lesson with the owner of Devinci bikes - Felix Gauthier.

Check out the whole process with videos and pictures inside:

Devinci Bikes - 100% Canadian - Factory Tour Part 1

Last editted Oct 29, 2008 at 15:51
Devinci manufactures a lot of bikes in their factory in Chicoutimi Quebec and myself and Ambrose were there to learn about the whole process that happens from concept in CAD to boxed bike on its way to your local bike shop. This is part one of our tour and we'll be looking at the concept process where a bike is created on the designer's computer, then to prototyping it, testing prototypes in the test bench area as well as information on Devinci's instrumented bike that they created to gather valuable information for creating the best bikes they can. We'll also be going for a lunch time ride with a bunch of the employees as they enjoy the great XC trails just outside the factory door.

Devinci Bikes - 100% Canadian - Bromont

Last editted Oct 24, 2008 at 0:55
We awoke Sunday morning to blue skies, yellow leaves and cool fall weather. What more could you ask for from a late October day? Our crew was eager to get to the parking lot and suit up so that they could show us the trails that they love to rip on all summer long. Bromont is only about an hour outside of Montreal and is quickly becoming a major destination for mountain bikers. This year they hosted a World Cup DH event on the back side of their mountain, an area in which they are expanding their DH trails to more and more.

Check out all my quick clips, pics and Ambrose’s movie from the day of riding in Bromont!
