With no premiere hype in the air to dilute criticism and new projects on the horizon it is a good time for reflection on one of our favorite films from last season - Anthill's Follow Me.

Check out what some of the riders in ‘Follow Me’ have to say about the film recently and of course let the makers know what you think as well!

One of the goals for ‘Follow Me’ was to create a MTB film that can be used as a tool to get people stoked to go riding. To achieve this Anthill packed a lot of detail into a fast paced film. For example ‘Follow Me’ is the same running time as the previous Collective films yet when it is first viewed it can seem to be shorter in length. The more you watch ‘Follow Me’ the more details you will discover in the footage. Take a look at what some of the riders in ‘Follow Me’ have had to say about the film recently and of course let Anthill know what you think too!

What kills it for me is the way they've clipped the sound to balance out the levels - Theres just no dynamics in the music and it makes it really unsatisfying to listen to.

The images are great - But for a great film you need both elements - Sound is just as important.

Well an extremely over hyped movie that barely delivered. There was more filler than actual riding in the 40-60min of viewing (it felt ridiculously short). Also that crappy rap sound track to Sam Hill's segment, i'm sorry but it killed it. My favourite part of Follow Me was (mental blank's) massive gap to wall ride & the NZ segment with Steve & Gee. Other than that all i can relate to 'Follow Me' is F'ing Letdown. Don't get me wrong, there was some amazing footage but the OVERALL package fell far too short!

its an incredibly sick film!, my only disapoint ment is that its like 40minutes long, i know with the extras its like an hour 20, but still, if you pay £20 for a film you expect it to be a fair bit longer, but still, the little fottage that you got, was pretty sick!

I think the footage was amazing, however maybe less slow mo shots? In a few of the segments there were shots that been slowed down and when you show it at full speed i find you get more of an idea of the size of the gap ect

But i think seasons got me much more motivated to ride that follow me did, maybe its because when i saw seasons i had only just started riding and didnt know much about mountain biking then.
Seasons just went into detail about mountain biking, talking to the riders more about what riding is to them etc.

I loved follow me, it had way better footage than seasons, but seasons just got me way more motivated to ride (esp Matt hunters segment).

Yeah. The whole thing could have worked together WAY better with the whole "follow me" thing...I thought that it would be something actually involving that sort of theme, not just segments with more than one rider at a time. Seasons deffo got me way more stoked to ride...I think that Follow Me just didn't have the thematic coherence that it needed. And music with a bit more emotion to it would be nice.

Also, maybe a few less cablecams and some more shots that have different camera motion in them? Cablecams are cool but they're not just a fix-all for getting awesome shots...

The only thing that caught me off guard was how short it was. Not that it was really short, but that it was shorter than the NWD films.

Another thing, to me was, there was great hype, but in the wrong direction. For example. When I see a NWD teaser, what do you expect? Flipping sweet riding and camera work, nothing else, I buy the DVD and enjoy the living crap out of it on my loud sound system.

But with Follow Me, because of all the behind the scene footage that you guys were pumping out, showing some clips of riders talking before dropping in, a freaking airplane! I was really expecting that I was going to see more of that. Just scenes or segments that didn't have music, and got to maybe see some of the crew and the riders just dicking around.

Instead, it felt like a newer/fresher NWD film that featured two riders at a time instead of one.

Non the less I still watch it alot. It was just a shocker when I first watched it in the theater (Arlington DraftHouse) that it was something I wasn't mentally prepared for because of all the mini clips you guys were pumping out about each of the riders.

In my opinion this is surpasses The collective and Roam and equally as good as Seasons. I've never really liked the NWD series or Kranked.

Follow Me covered everything. It was well shot, The riding pushed the limits of biking (not like the Rampage obviously) the tunes were good, the locations where nuts and the best riders in the world featured. Yes we would all like it to be a little longer but most MTB films are only 10 mins longer at a push.

In short I do not see how this could be over hyped. They claimed awesome and it delivered

I like how tom can remember that Rap was playing during Hill and Vanderhams part, yet can't remember it was Matt Hunter who stuck the biggest trick in the entire movie.

The HD footage was amazing. They had some really cool locations and really seemed to show what it is like to ride with a buddy. To me though Seasons is still the best MTB film ever because it just was an amazing complete package. The concept of the seasons and how riding changes was great - it can get you stoked to ride whatever the season even if its snowing or rainy or cold. The practice and dedication of the Claw and McCaul really makes you feel that going out and working on your riding will make you better. The sneak peek into the lives of true rider kinda shows hey these guys are not just amazing riders but they are cool normal guys. The scoping out trails makes you want to go out and do the same. Seasons somehow really connects you to the riders. That plus some amazing riding scenes and some really dope music and it will be really hard to top seasons in my mind. A nice try with Follow Me and a great film though.

I hate to say it but i think dirt jumping in movies is always the same. They should separate both type of riding in different movies. Getting 100% freeride/dh trail riding would be nice...

Seems any kind of criticism is getting massive amounts of negative props, so i'll try to be constructive.

I'd really like to see less slow-motion in mtb films, whilst it does have a place, i feel it gets used far too much. It really detracts from the energy that can be packed into the more fast paced banger videos in the bmx and fmx worlds.

Also, I know you want to show the environment and set the scene for the documentary style of the film, but that technique filters down and the videos on here are getting to the stage where the first half is entirley taken up by just setting the scene and people pushing their bikes up a hill, in a 3 minute video i don't want to have to skip the first 90 seconds just to see some riding.

tl:dr - I just want to see some well shot riding and some boundaries being pushed, i'm not so keen on the extensive interviews and documentary style slow motion berm shots on every segment.

Great riding? Sure.

As a film it pales in comparison to their other works as it lacked depth. It felt like a trailer and left me wondering where was the rest of the film.

Incredibly, over-hyped and it's still going. This feels like nothing more than continued marketing just in time for the holiday season.

I still like Seasons best, love the way the guys are talking about what makes them tick, how it all comes together, plus the killer footage. Follow me comes second, and Life Cycles is still in the post, despite being ordered months ago..... so I can't comment.
A lot of people on here forget how good 'old' films like Cranked 5 were (section in Turkey), or even Tricks & Stunts by the Ashtons.

Dr Bash, biking aint about colour, creed or religion. It's about getting out on your bike ( no matter how cr*p you ride ) n having a good time with friends and other bikers!!! Watching Follow Me don't get me thinking bout War or Iraq or Afganistan!!! I think how sweet it would be to ride those trails and even better be good enough to get paid and filmed by a team as good as Anthill!!!!!!!! Chill out n ride man!!!!!!!

Best mountain bike film to get you stoked and to go out to ride. As a goal, they nailed it. I've watched it over and over countless times and it gets me stoked to ride every-time. Seen both this and life cycles. Life cycles was a coffee table book come to life and Follow me was the best-in-class actual mountain bike riding film.

When I was watching life cycles, by the end all I was thinking of was "man this would be so much better if it actually had some more riding like from follow me." I never got the sense of speed from life cycles as everything was in slow motion. Though a visual feast, it got boring pretty quick. It just needed to keep what it had and add 1/3 more riding riding and fast flowy filming that made follow me so awesome.

With that, my advice to Anthill is to try to match the cinematic quality of Life Cycles (RED Camera, Post Production, etc) with the even better riding style, cable shoots, increase sense of speed that follow me brought and you'll have the greatest mountain bike film of all time.

First of all, the film was amazing. the only feedback I have is totry and tie the different segments together more. Life Cycles was like one amazing film, but Follow Me was like a bunch on AMAZING segments. A movie with all of what michaeldorian said and a more together fell will be the best movie of all time. Period. Hands down. No questions asked.

@Think1up. Oh I did not know that. Must be the way life cycles went through post production. The imagery was just better. More cinematic. However, I don't think the whole thing was shot on RED.

Overall, a great film. I still think Roam is my favorite though. And what's up with that guy Tom-mot, "crappy rap sound track to Sam Hill's segment"??? WTF-ever!!! That's honestly probably my favorite track on the movie, Mos Def is one of the greatest MC's ever. Just because YOU don't like hip-hop, doesn't mean we're all so closed minded when it comes to music. Personally, I thought the segment in Mexico was probably the lamest one, kinda boring if you ask me. Best segment was probably Brad's Yard, then maybe the New Zealand segment. Overall though, not my favorite film, but it ranks right up there in the the top 4 or 5.

I seem to have a contrasting opinion to most of the other people on here.
In essence Anthill is very similar to The Collective, so I expected more when I sat down and watched Follow me.
There wasn't as much narrative to the film, but the shots where good. The film seems to die away a little in the Middle, The Start is great, and the bike park segment it good, the film looses it a bit, and get's better as Stevie Smith come in, with the Section in NZ being the best. The editing seems a little off in the film, I think editing is often looked over, and the structure to the film seems a little strange.. For example in the Bike Park Seg, it goes through the bike parks into some Dirt Jumping, then goes back to a "round up" of all the bike parks, the shots are killer, so why not put them in with there respective sections of that segment. It seems they have stuck the teaser on the end of that Seg for no reason. All in all a good film, and as I sat in the Crystal Lounge watching it over and over, it grew on me more and more.

Doesn't seem to have the same repeat watch-ability as the Collective, but it's a damn good flick. The Collective, even though the riding is getting "dated" is still the yardstick to measure all other bike movies.

Follow Me has made for some cool Panasonic TV adds though.

First saw this one at a party put on by a shop in Golden. Everyone was into it, and the crowd reaction was fantastic!. Have watched it many times since. My only complaint is the music during the segment in "Brad's Yard"... not the style but the politics. Keep that crap out of my bike movies. I couldnt care less about what some musician's view of the world is and as far as I am concerned, they can keep it to themselves and out of their music. That being said, I will continue to brainwash my kids with this film!!

first time I ever saw follow me was on my 15th bday with some friends, after a long ride in the rain (north shore/vancouver/bc, you get my point). we were so amped out by it that we wanted to go for another ride. ahahaha. but now whenever someone says ''follow me'' and im around those same friends, we turn to eachother and put on this charismatic voice and exclaim ''FOOOLOW MEEEEEE'' so yeah. great stuff to watch in the off season.

This was the first time I downloaded it directly from the film prodction team. That i love. I am not a fan of buying 50min MTB movies when I only watch them once or twice. And soooo much of it is the same. this format will ensure me buying every movie that catches my eye thru hyped trailers. 10.00 is well worth it. I wont even mind if the movie is so-so at that price. dont have to waste any gas money driving to the bike shoppe. I'll comment on the movie after I watch it. still downloading .
I am a little surprised about the negative comments about Life Cycles. The trailer was the best bike film trailer I have ever seen. LC is next on my list. I hate the off season.

I have to agree about the hour minimum. Based on all the footage being rolled with credits, they must have had enough footage for at least 2 full length videos. I do miss the outtakes also of the riders coming up short while dialing in their segment runs . they should show their crashes but have them shown AFTER we have already seen them clean a section. It's sorta nice to see that these guys crash like everybody else. That being said, I loved the movie, (especially at $10.00 direct). AND to the haters, I know everyone's input is supposed to be valued , but i think that some guys have to shit on evrything no matter how good it is. I remember what the first Kranked, Down and Chain reaction vids were like, we've come far since then. This was a really good effort and NOTHING is ever perfect. That's what drives us to get better at stuff...YA KNOW?.

too much slow-mo for my liking, and most of the music sucked balls! Also the editing was nice from an artsy point of view, but didnt really show enough of the trail and rider on the trails….too many scenes were either started too late and cut too soon….oh and please no more slow mo….especially slow-mo backflips….lame.

I just realized why I like it so much. It's edited like todays pornos , all the talkie parts and bad acting edited out and all the exciting action parts are already cued up. Except the backround music is muuuch better and louder!

I must say though, nothing against riders, But I dont dig the Baja section. How many videos have we seen of guys flying down sandy loose hills with trails of sand flying out the back Fun to do, but not to watch. The only difference this time was there was an ocean at the bottom. Yawwn. Bike Park section was my favorite.

i bought follow when i had a broken arm. it was the first mtb movie i had ever seen and i could only watch 10 minutes at a time because of how epic it is. it reminded me why i was sitting at home and made me supper anxious to heal and get back on my bike!

I held off on Follow Me until a couple weeks ago. After a myriad of the same junk being replayed in v.32 it had become pointless to purchase, let alone watch and get stoked with much of what came out after 2007... besides the Earthed series and Clay Porter's race dvds.
But I have to say that Follow Me, in particular the last section with Gee and Smith, was a nice change.
I think guys putting out MTB films in the future need to get a bit more creative, simply for fear of mediocrity. I'm not talking about pushing the riders any harder, so much as having their work say something other than being an outlet for new music.

I don't think the theme of "Follow Me" was followed well enough because in almost half the shots, there is only one rider. As for the soundtrack, I think it was pretty good. The movie could have been longer, but the footage in the movie was some of Anthill/Collective's best, though I bet compared to Life Cycles it looks like a piece of French cheese.

Very well shot and there are some very good bits, but its still essentially just a music video, and there are films of people sliding round corners to a noisy soundtrack all over the internet. I am looking forward to somebody producing an actual film that tells a story which hopefully i can actually learn something from.

Just purchased a downloaded copy through the website and i am thoroughly impressed with it. An awesome production that flows really well seemed short but then i think thats down to the fast pace of the film. This is the sort of film i could show people with no interest in biking at all and im sure they would be just as impressed with it as a seasoned biker would be.

Only thing i would say is that it would have been good to see some more dialogue between the riders to help try show the chemistry between the riders a bit more. I am nit picking though its an awesome film. Well done!!!

when i got follow me when it first came out, i watched it probably everyday for at least 2 weeks, it helped me get through an all summer injury, and i watched it last night, i think follow me is the best movie out, i dont think i could ever get sick of watching it over and over.

Yeah my nephews love mountain bike movies and are just completely mezmorized by them...just like what Matt Hunter said. They also worship me and think i'm the best bike rider in the world..haha i love it.

Unfortunately i can`t delete my own comment after Dr. Bashs comment was deleted, but for my explanation i spend last year six months in India near to the Pakistan border and sometimes you hear young people saying things like: i bomb your car and other crap, they dont know what they saying, and they dont live in crisis regions.
