In response to Goat Style, Alberta gives you: Gopher Style!
Fort Macleod, Alberta is not the first place you would think of when you’re looking for huge, sick dirt jumps. But that’s just where you’ll find them. And they won’t be demolished by the time you get there. Let’s give Mayor Shawn Patience a thunderous applause.

With the help of a handful of sponsors and dedicated volunteer builders, the Fort Macleod Bike Park was completed last year and hosted their first annual slopestyle competition as its grand opening event.
Volunteers are back at it again, making the advanced lines extra gnarly and filling in the gopher holes for the 2nd annual Bert & Mac’s Jump Jam event, aptly nicknamed “Gopher Style”. The secret insanity that lurks out in Fort Macleod has already begun attracting big names. Sponsors this year include Giant, Brodie, Trek, Oakley, Smith, Fox Clothing, Protec, Mirra-Co., Bert & Mac’s Cycle (the local Lethbridge-based bike shop), Candie Co. & Innocence Clothing, Fort Macleod Subway, the Town of Fort Macleod, J Ko Industries, Orange Sport Supply and more!
This year’s main event will be held in the wake of Goat Style on Sunday, July 26 from 12-6pm. Top riders will take home $200 for best trick and tons of sick prizes from sponsors. Registration is $20 for all age classes (please contact Matt Gillin at Bert & Mac’s Cycle at 403-327-3221 to register). If you’re coming as a spectator, make sure you get yourself a few raffle tickets - proceeds will be donated in support of Wood’s Homes.
Here is a preview of this year’s advanced line (photos provided by Cody Belter of Shutterbug Photography):
Hope to see you there! The jumps are located just north of the “Volunteer Ball Park” on 1st Ave. (marked with a green circle on this map). If you hit them outside of the competition, please lend a shovel and give the hard-working volunteers a hand in maintaining them!

Lucky b*****ds. In the UK we get the council attempting to make some skatepark or something shoddy like that. You guys get all the good stuff.
thats a really bad place for dirt jumps in alberta. its the most windy part of the province. hence all the wind mills. hope all goes well.
Geez, I had no idea that Fort MacLeod had anything like this. But you're right, there's not many places windier! I'm thinking I'll have to go check this out, mostly to see if I can actually hit any of those jumps with my questionable skill level.
We make do with what we're given. If your hometown was windy every other day, would you stop riding? And peejay's right, the wind is usually at your back.

Just a quick note Creston BC has a dirt jump park that doesnt get demolished. Its open and ready to ride. We can thank the Mayor Toyota for that.
The article meant no disrespect to Goat Style or Creston. There's just a trend of riders building dirt jumps only to have them torn down by the city officials rather than supported by them.

do you think they will cancel because there is an 80% chance of rain, if it is canceled will it be re scheduled
so did it end up getting cancelled? i was out of town. Are they gonna leave the advanced line up as it was in the comp?
