Garbanzo Opens June 20th

The Whistler Mountain Bike Park has announced that the highly anticipated Garbanzo Zone trails will open one week earlier than planned, this Saturday, June 20.
“Weather has definitely been on our side this spring with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures melting away snow and drying up the trails,” says Rob McSkimming, vice president of business development at Whistler Blackcomb. “We’re very pleased that the Garbanzo trails are good to go so early. There is minimal snow up there and crews expect to get most of the trails open for the weekend. Although some sections of some trails are still a bit wet and soft from the snow melt, the overall conditions are excellent for this time of year.”

Early Bird Season Pass and Triple Play pricing expires Friday, June 19
At the end of last year, the Bike Park opened up several new sections of Blue Velvet, a major extension of Freight Train and a completely rebuilt No Joke single track, now called New Joke. All of these new trails will be open on Saturday. The addition of these trails provides experiences for a broader range of riders. With the opening of the Garbanzo Zone, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park’s total vertical drop is 3,314 feet, or just over 1,000 metres.
"I am so stoked for the Garbanzo to open,” says Richie Schley, pro rider and mountain bike legend. “First of all there is nothing like riding fresh trails at the beginning of the season and second, it is so much vert! Love the technical, and let’s face it Side Track has the sickest jumps out there. See you up there!"
The Garbanzo Express chairlift will access the zone Saturday and Sunday, and the Whistler Village Gondola will access the zone next Monday through Friday. Garbanzo hours of operation are 11am to 7pm daily. The Fitzsimmons Chair will access the lower Park from 10am to 8pm daily. Downhill bike rentals and lift tickets are available at the base.
The Early Bird Deadline for Bike Park Season Passes and Triple Play Passes ends this Friday, June 19, and can be purchased by phone at 1-800-766-0449, online at whistlerblackcomb.com/bike or in person at the Village Guest Relations in the Whistler Gondola building. Riders can purchase their Bike Park passes at an Early Bird rate of $435 before June 19, and $475 thereafter. Winter Edge Card and Season Pass holders are eligible to purchase a Bike Park pass for $425.
The Triple Play Card returns, offering three days of riding in the Whistler Mountain Bike for the adult Early Bird price of $115 if purchased before June 19, and $125 thereafter. Riders save on any additional days and can have the convenience of going directly to the lift by connecting their Triple Play Card to their credit card.
First-timers can test drive the Whistler Mountain Bike Park with the Sampler ticket, which provides three lift rides. If the sampling turns into a full-blown addiction, riders can upgrade to a full day ticket with options to receive discounts on riding in the Bike Park for the rest of the season.

Aahhh I can't wait. Thanks for the update, I've been wondering when Garbanzo would open.
during the winter ive been fideing trails on garbo all winter on my skis, theres gonna be some sick changes im so stoked
its only sucky if u sit there and do jack-all. but if you get up and make jumps or have the effort to ride a bit further to get to a good park or what ever, then it is fine..
I agree with terri-anne the uk is pretty sucky, even if we do "get up and make jumps" like u said bandy they just get trashed by chavs or dog walkers. However some of the trail centres and spots are good thyre just sparce and nothing compared to whistler. 
I didn't wanna cause an argument, or annoy anyone!
I headed out to Whistler last year and it was THE BEST holiday I have ever had. The people were amazing, the shops, food, drink- the atmosphere. More women ride in canada- they are more accepted by the guys, and encouraged. The trails are welcomed, not abolished. The airport (Vancouver) was imaculate (gatwick is a bit of a hole)! The way of life is soo much better in my opinion. Yeah sure, I like the UK, my best friends are here and its my home- most trails are awesome and it's here I learn't to ride. I just liked the 'get out doors' attitude in Whistler- rather than 'sit in and play Wii' culture we have here (massive generalisation??).
I take back the 'sucky' comment, but I still would prefer to be shredding Crank It Up or Freight train, rather than hitting Cwmcarn or Chicksands any day!

Well said Terri-anne. I live on Vancouver Island and take for granted what great riding we have in our own back yard (including Whistler, which is only 4.5 hours away). Friends of mine recently moved away and give me shit if I EVER complain about a bad riding day out here.

There is more to British Columbia than just Vancouver's Airport and Whistler.. try to see more of it.
I am 100% sure there is more to Canada- but I only had two weeks Plus having just returned from whistler, I happened to stumbled across an article in Dirt (mag) that discussed the difference between Gatwick airport and Vancouver airport. The chap writing it was looking at how the airports seemed to epitomize the country they were in- so I was drawing something from that.
I didn't have time to travel the whole length and brepth of Canada, I will make it my mission when I immigrate!!
P.S If you've ever you get the chance to land in at Gatwick, Pushingbroom, you may well value Vancouver airport a little more.

It would be nice to have something like Whistler in the UK, but we can still take benefit from the 7Stanes in Scotland and the will to ride in the wet: I feel a bit jealous though.

I'm doing a shitload of road cycling for cardio and leg strength, then as many pull ups and push ups as I can stand. It SUCKS but it should pay off tenfold when I get there...

no its amazing wide variety of trails that can go from extreme flow to some gnarly technical if I were You I would do freight train first!

Rode garbo yesterday and the trails were bone dry, but the rain kept coming today...bring it on! The trails are in KILLER shape! O Sin - Goats Gully - In Deep - Fatcrobat - Too Tight...it was the run of the day!
it was great today...dry in the morn, damp and tacky early in the afternoon and a bit of rain later. i had a blast!

its about time, and i cant wait to go down the new trails, i did some last year before they were complete and open to the public, dont tell anyone though haha, but just so you all know they are sick!
