PaintHouse Custom Painting does up a Pinkbike Helmet

Posted: Dec 4, 2008

I first met Stacy Glaser and a whole band of riders that were all on HUKK bikes a few years ago at the Red Neck Rumble toonie races on Vedder Mountain. We always run into each other on the trails and recently he informed us that he had started to Airbrush helmets when not out riding. After a quick talk and throwing around a few ideas, we shipped him a helmet and he did it up for us!

Read on to check it all out and to hear a bit from Stacy himself:

Hi my name is Stacy Glaser and I've started PaintHouse Custom Painting. I'm originally from Ringwood, New Jersey and aside from painting I've been riding bikes for over 10 years. I first met Radek and Tyler from Pinkbike.com a couple of years ago at the Redneck Rumble races they were holding in Chilliwack, BC.

Since then I've periodically seen them at various events and riding spots. Then at this past Crankworx in Whistler, I approached Tyler with the idea to do a Pinkbike Theme helmet for the site and within a few weeks I had a brand new Giro Remedy Carbon on my desk. After talking with Tyler I began to work on the concept drawings and sanding the helmet clean of any stickers and graphics. After the concept was completed, I laid out the masks for the main graphics.

I knew I wanted to do a wood grain graphic, I had drawn it for years but always in pen or pencil but never with an airbrush. So, after about 10 test panels I finally had the color combination and grain I had imagined. Once the wood grain was finished being painted, I pinstriped an outline with black and added a translucent red accent on the top. Finally I topped it off with a hand made Pinkbike logo.

I really enjoyed this project and I look forward to working again with the Pinkbike.com crew. I'd like to thank Tyler for all his help and Julian Kenchenten for taking some great pics with me on the North Shore.

Please contact me at painthousecustoms@gmail.com with any questions or inquiries. You can also check out other projects including a helmet I did for Wade Simmons, at painthousecustoms.blogspot.com.

Happy trails and happy holidays from PaintHouse and stay tuned to Pinkbike.com for future projects and stories.

I really like it, I can tell from your logo that you are good Wink Finally someone doing some sharper stuff. I hate those blurry paint jobs with skulls, lighinings or stuff like that. Cheers and gratulations!

I think you should have went with a little more subtle approach. The flashy design of the wood grain doesn't suit the helmet. Think wood panel wagon haha, super vintage.

Costs about 500-2000$ USD for a troy lee designs custom paint job for an idea... and troy lee has been the industry custom paint leader for decades now. Check out some of his work. Not dissin stacy's just giving an example of cost. I have no clue how much this helmet would cost tho... Probably around 500$ im guessin. Maybe less due to the small errors we see.

flag nishnash (Dec 7, 2008 at 15:59)
good guess, i know the troy lee price, stupid expensive!!!
  • + 0
flag rffr (Dec 12, 2008 at 16:33)
It's only stupid expensive if you pay for it yourself. Now if your sponsors are paying for it rock on !

My buddy back in my bmx racing days had a t/l painted helmet. Cost him like 1500 for it. (that included the d2 helmet as well. So figure at the time it was about a 1100$ paint job). It got him more than noticed with companies. He was factory cheeta for awhile. Went to staats. Duno what hes on now. Been at least 5 years since I have been to the track.

flag nishnash (Dec 12, 2008 at 16:40)
well either way someone has to pay for it. The fact that a company buys it for you doesnt make it cheap.
  • + 0
flag rffr (Dec 13, 2008 at 8:43)
Yea, but a sponsor generally has a MUCH larger buget than the avg consumer so paying 1k for a paintjob won't be much. Companies have no issue buying stuff for their riders that over all help advertise for their cause. So in the end it might cost 1k or so for a sick tld job, but think about how much advertising and rider attention you will get. Helmets make a BIG impact. Don't believe me... I was on the ABA bmx scene for over a decade and saw MANY riders get picked up wearing crazy helmets. After all once everyone gets to a point in this racing it's the minor things that will set you apart from the guys next to you. I know all my races were all neck and neck.

flag nishnash (Dec 13, 2008 at 20:15)
What you arent getting is that price is price. The only time where it would be cheaper is if they bought in bulk. The price is the same for a rider to buy it, or a company to buy it. Its like this thing that this kid told me "one ton of steel weighs more than one ton of feathers" (not going to mention his name). And it was so off its not funny. But point is it does not matter who pays for it, cost is cost.
