Pinkbike Team Bikes Stolen!
by brule
Posted: Jun 8, 2009
This past weekend while racers were getting ready and prepping for their races, thieves were busy too. The second BC Cup race of the season took place at the Kamloops Bike Ranch in Kamloops BC and bike thieves were on hand to do their part too. RCMP have informed us that approximately 10 bikes have been reported stolen so far this past weekend in relation to the race and among those were two Pinkbike.com team bikes. We, just like everyone that has lost a bike, would really appreciate their return.
Please read on for full descriptions of each race bike:

pretty stupid to steal Darryl Bartlett's bike, it has his name on it?
Whats really sick about it is that the entire shock will likely be painted, happened to a buddy of mine.
those are two awesome bikes. hope the f*ggots that stole them get harsh punishment... or neutering...
i hope they dont get caught by the police until eric and darryl get their hands on the thieves first
For reasons and people like these, I'd wish we were living in the dark ages! They'd cutt off the hands of the thieves to punish them so they'll never steal again!
This is so harsh... It's like stealing a baby's rattle ffs. A rider loves his bike.
I seriously hope they'll find their bikes back! And like Ferraridude said, I hope they call the ambulance before they call the cops

Hope your bikes are recovered. I know how this feels, My bike was stolen and hasn't been recovered... I'm so friggen depressed with no riding and financially strapped so the prospect of a new ride isn't too great... Good Luck boys...We all need it in these cases...
Although this does not directly affect me, it has pissed me off loads. Some people just have no respect for other peoples belongings and the value that is being taken away. Sentimentally aswell as in terms of money. These bastards need severe punishment because stealing isn't right and when its stealing a guys love and passion its even worse.
if i got my bike stolen and found out who didnt... there is no chance that i would phone the cops...id be the one going to jail lol
funny story... i found bikes just like those last weekend so i put them in my garage. JOKES. sucks ya'll lost yo bikes
your definitely not a true biker if they go around stealing other peoples bikes, if they cant afford your own good bike then they should f**k off and leave all the people bikes alone that can afford, and go get a job and stop being an arse hole and steal bikes
or thrown off a cliff with no bike, i dont understand why people have the need to this. its just not right. people work and ride hard to get a bike like that and some little peice of shit has to take it and probably cant even ride the bike even close to its capable of doing. i hope all them or most of them get there bikes back.
i see a lot of hard statements.. but these thieves will only steal if there are peeps who will buy their stuff..
without them buyers.. stealing is pointless..
without them buyers.. stealing is pointless..
f*cking stupid wanker thieves, cant they get proper f*ckin jobs and work hard to pay for the bikes like we do!
kick the shit outa them when u catch em
kick the shit outa them when u catch em
We Should all wathc on ebay for them and if we see them tell pinkbike right away make one of these that would work out good
makes me laugh, theives, i mean its stupid to steal a bike really, in the scheme of things, but to steal two pretty rare bikes, including a one of 4 in the world really does some up the kind of small minded, light fingered, short sighted people that do this kinda thing! should be reunited soon, were all searching the online auctions
[Reply]
its disgraceful you cant even leve your bikes unattended at organised races theiving scum bags should be shot!
Apparently, the bikes were locked outside the tent and trailer the guys were sleeping in. The locks were cut. Someone chased them but the bike was faster then the runner. So sucks for Darryl and Eric.
they should get a big ass cable that can barely be bent and a giant ass lock. or rig up some device that electrifies the lock so they get shocked if they try and cut it and an alarm goes off inside the trailer, haha
in the motorcycle industry they used to have a disc lock that was an alarm as well. since the bicycles are using disc brakes, something like this may come in handy. when the locks are moved around the alarm goes off. i don't know it they are still being made, but if they are, it might be something to check in to just to prevent situations like this from happening. sorry to hear about the bad luck, hope all the bikes return home safely
no no no death is too kind. they should be tortured, mutilated and then fed to rats. that would teach the scummy twAts
thats just awful man, you cant compare human life to a bike, no matter how nice the bike is. they will get new bikes, but if you kill the thieves, you can not bring them back. i am in no means defending the thieves, im just saying, let the punishment fit the crime
i kinda agree but i have found the authorities wont do anything even if they know who took the bike so making an example out of this bunch of low life scum might deter others from theiving our babies
I dont now anything about the municipal system in the UK, but in Canada, if the police or RCMP know who committed a crime, they will likely do something about it
i had a nitro car stolen out of the shop i work at i got the reg plate of thebcar and we had some photos of the people , the car was picked up on cctv leaving on the motorway and they still didnt go round to the address the car was registered too even with all that to go on ! tis insanley annoying! just hope you guys find those bikes in the near future
i had a bike nicked. the thieves cut the lock so its definatly a crime and he looked at a cctv camera. the police said they new him but the evidence was inconclusive i was so angry
artifact, i am guessing you've never got your bike stolen, when you do, you will know what it feels like.
manikboi, i have actually had one bike stolen, im just a good human, and would never wish to see someone die because of it. im sure if whatever punishment that was suggested above was actually played out, you would feel just awful about yourself
ok...so you are suggesting that locking them up behind bars would bring your bike back? what kind of "suitable punishment" would you suggest that can bring your bike back? and even if the prick that stole your bike gets locked up behind bars, they would commit the same crime once they are out. You should feel aweful about yourself that the justice system failed you so badly.
How did it fail me so badly? I got my bike bike. i think this is a silly argument as you seem far to ignorant to understand what im saying
i don't mean to pick bones with you, but you have not answered my questions, what are you suggesting locking them up behind bars would bring your bike back? its wonderful you got your "bike bike" back, but the number of ppl who are still out searching for their bikes far dwarfs the # of ppl that got their bikes back. if i am too ignorant on what you are saying, please clarify. btw, i hate arguing with ppl that think they are utterly superior from everyone else...and you definitely fit that catagory
Ok, cool. for starters i never said you were too ignorant, i just said you seemed that way, as i would not make assumptions about people i have never met. and why would i think i was superior than you? i disgree with people all the time, and that doesnt give me higher staus than them. it is great i got my biki bike, i was very pleased, and you right, the number of people whose bikes have been recovered after theft is much smaller. frankly, i dont know what would be a good punishment, but i do know that killing someone over the loss of a bike is throwing something way out of proportion. punishment is wayyy to harsh for the crime. i dont know if people are being serious when they say that, but its just f*cking wack. honestly, they must take life for granted if they would see someone die because of a stolen bike. thats just in humane
to be quite honest yes i think killing them is a tad harsh even tho i have said otherwise. but hey a joke is a joke. now what i think we all need to do is everytime we get a bike stolen report it or find the person that did it and steal something that is precious to them. either that or send them to kazakstan thats punishment enough i think. hallo my namea borat!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would beat the living shit out of someone stealing my bike.... But come on guys we all know you can't leave expensive bikes out with just a cable lock around them and no one keeping an eye on them.... Any of you who think you can are just tempting fate.... Take this as a lesson to be ultra careful.. I get worried every time I leave my bike locked on my rack even for a few minutes... the same as if it were a real baby in the car.. we have all heard the horror stories this is just another one. hopefully with a happy ending.
Wow, why would someone do that? i hope someone finds the bikes and the theives. They deserve to have their asses kicked
aww what

i hope you get em back and gett some one to run them over wid the bikes they stole
and fine em cuz thas just wrong

i hope you get em back and gett some one to run them over wid the bikes they stole

I hope that no other riders would buy any of these bikes or parts funding these scum bags knowing that they had been stolen, hope you all get your bikes back soon and hope the thieves meet their end very soon!!!

Can you get your friend to email me at tyler@pinkbike.com and I will add their bike to the list? THanks.
Thieves are scum of the earth I tell you..
hope you get these bikes back and catch the dirty bastid(s)

NEVER BUY ANY REPAINTED BIKE! For this very reason. It keeps the thieves alive. Always check for serial numbers! Catch these scabs and make them bleed!
i guess he means shotty paint jobs, like shit as spray jobs cheap arse people would do. i doubt a theif would take the time to go get a bike properly painted. Dirty thieves! Cops are usually pretty useless at punishing them properly too
lol, i was actually referring to one of my friends who painted a commencal with spray paint to make it rasta, then wrote on it with a sharpie. That doesn't make it illegit, just ugly.
As far as serial numbers though: if it doesn't have a serial number, definitely don't buy it.

Wow, and I left my stab in the back of my truck all over that place all weekend with no probs, man I was lucky......... brutal guys!
What evryone should do is register your serial #'s with the police.
I did it with mine- it got stolen- and was found a week later with nothing all the expensives gone- but I still got my baby back
I did it with mine- it got stolen- and was found a week later with nothing all the expensives gone- but I still got my baby back
how would I do that? just go to the police station and ask to submit a registration form or something? This is probably the best tip I have read so far
where do yuo find the serial numbers? and what do you do to register them? I had mine stolen about a month ago but getting a new one insurance so not to bad
it should be stamped into the bottom bracket tube. Flip your bike over and take a look. I keep forgetting to at least take a photo of it so I have proof.
thats soo bad maaan! sorry to hear, i know how it feels my bike got stolen in france last year! and i still havnt got any thing back seince last year! its the worst thing ever !! i really hope all the bike are found and returned to there shreders! and hope the twats who took them get bashed right up!!!

Hopefully it is the same group of people stealing all the bikes. If they are dumb enough to resort to stealing someones pride and joy, they are probably dumb enough to get caught and by sheer luck I will pray that all the bikes are being kept in one location.
Probably unlikely, but some (most/all) criminals are retarded.

If anyone sees a Flatline Pro DH with mmc stickers all over it and some big flatspots in the rear rim email me at tylertjart_13@hotmail.com i got my bike on Saturday night at Kamloops as well. thanks
and the worst thing is the police are rubbish as i was pushed off my brand new kona shred by masked men and they rode off on it and only 3 days after christmas aswell and the police were rubbish i had loads of evidence but they wornt bothered
[Reply]
why cain't people take their hands off other people's stuff:mad:.I hope they find those 2 bikes.Stupid thiefs
wow...brutal. Eveyone in the kamloops area needs to spread the word and keep their eyes open for these bikes. The Norco should be pretty easy to spot...I haven't seen a new team DH in town this year. This shit sure gives the loops a bad name. Bastards!
Good luck riding in peace you thieving fuktards! You didn't exactly steal bikes that will blend in very well. Very lame, recently had my two bikes jacked and it pisses me off beyond belief that I have to drop another couple grand to keep doing what I love. Karma mother fkrs! Karma!
Im close to Kamloops (Vernon) I will keep my eyes peeled and hopefully catch a whisper of whos got their hands on them.
Well they could be here. I know there was a pretty big theft operation going on a couple of years ago with lots of high end bikes. Probably still is. A buddy of mine had a bike swiped on the North SHore of Kamloops by some crack head, but he managed to get it back. Some of these people are pros, they follow you if they see bikes on the back of your vehicle. be vigilant.
My buddy just went ou tto bc for the summer and got his demo 7 stolen a week into his trip.. Its bullshit

I have said it so many times, IMBA ought to run national bike theft hotlines and networks through which victims and witnesses can communicate and coordinate. This would cut down on thefts and illegal/blackmarket resales. A organization like the IMBA, which has members in every niche of mtb, would be hard to escape if it united all its riders via a structured communication network.
[Reply]
The really shit thing is the little twats that stole them wont even ride them and if they do it wont be any where near there full potential! Chop there balls off if they are caught!
whistler is also big business for thieves. there are so many thefts in whistler, especially during c worx. in essence stealing a mtn bike is easier and more profitable then stealing a car. keep your eyes on your shit. buy motorcycle locks. the cables are little more then a 5 second hassle for any organized thief.
the police are a cunch of bunts and do shit all to help the matter! and the thievin scum bags should be arse raped by elephants the mother 'uckin 'unts
Bikes that were stolen at this race last year were recovered by the police. They did great, hopefully they can do it again.
I really don't know what I would do to somone if I caught them stealing my bike. I like to think I'd beat the crap outta them and claim self defence.
Hence mine is in my living room.
Hence mine is in my living room.
i cant f_ckin stand that you get a kid doesn't have much money saves up to get his bike parts ect and it gets stolen by some spoiled kid who doesn't care about anything hope you find the guy and beat him
[Reply]
What a lowlife to steal someones nice ride like that. many of us work really hard to save up for nice bikes, why would you steal one from someone else. I bet they think they're to cool to work and rules don't apply to them. When they catch those theives, I hope eric darry and tyler get a little alone time with them to share with them how they feel about this whole situation. And then beat their ASSES!
That sucks to think that there's thieves out there that know so little about what they're stealing that they'd turn up at a race and steal pro bikes which are generally pretty exclusive - my bike frame is 1 of a kind in the uk... sad to think someone would still be dumb enough to try and steal it!
Easist way to stop bike theft is too hang a few of the week, spinless, cowards at a few races! Sting'em up at the finish line for everyone to see!!
[Reply]
Maybe they do already, but Bike parks should start matching serial numbers with id cards when people buy lift passes. This way, bikes can be traced around. If a bike is not stolen, then a rider should have no problem having his/her DR license or ID recorded along side a legitimate bike's serial number. Scratched-out or illegible serial numbers shouldn't be allowed in parks so thieves can't ride or sell their bikes to people who would use them there. Bummer if you couldn't ride that "hot-new" bike at any of the premier bike parks in CA--Another reason a person would not buy a stolen bike.
The thing is its not a Bike parts responsibility to watch your bike. If you are dumb enough to use a simple cable to lock up a $5000 + bike you are just asking for it imo.....
Sucks that these guys had their bikes stolen but lets face it thats the world we live in and to be naive enough to think otherwise is just prepping yourself to have this happen.

You're are so right nofree69(lol). I learned this the hard way about cable locking my bike. I actually think the squishy-bungie cord took them longer to get through than the cable did.
But I figured since the bike park is taking info about you while you're signing waivers anyway, why not take an extra minute to get the serial number off that 5000.00 bike. If thieves leave the number on, there's a chance of an investigative trace if recirculated in public. Take the serial number off, the bike is dead to all participating bike parks.

Damn good idea camm67! Just like registering your bike with the local coppers! if it protects us from the low-life's, it's all good!!
man that blows, good luck getting them back. A couple years ago my bmx got stolen i know how you guys feel. I know its not completely the same, but when you put money into your bike and you love to ride it theres nothing worse..
Feel bad for eric, tyler and darryl, bummer getting your rides ripped off by some punk ass people. Had my road bike swiped a few years back pissed me off so much I vowed I'd drive on sidewalks if I saw the person who pinched it off me.. Good luck in your search to get them back....

That's getting annoying. The ignorant f*cks, who gives them the right, we work hard for our bikes.
My 2 cents, we all start staying armed and at attention, set an example to bike thief that unless they want to get their teeth busted out they best watch their sticky hands away from our bikes.

To all the bike thieves of the world and those of you who knowingly buy stolen gear----> Eat Shyt & Die
if the people who stole them are smart they will have them sand blasted serial numbers ground off with fake numbers stamped in and a new paint job, and if they are really smart they will part them out
hey same thing happened last year at the bike ranch during race, something fishy going on or very organized bike thevies.
just the thought of my new wilson gone brings me to tears... i feel for you guys, but im pretty sure you will be riding soon.
I hope their insurance is good. I bought a Session 88 and called my insurance company, they want $5.00 per $100. thats like $300 a year. But I guess it would seem cheap after the fact. I hope those bikes inspire the dickless wonders to ride beyond their ability and they case head first into a tree or rock or any hard brain damaging surface.
[Reply]
this pisses me off like those bikes are so nice and the riders desurve to have them, i hope those punks get busted, also if you think about it those bikes total any where from $50 000- $70 000 OBO just because they are race bikes
This thief must be still in this room. Turn yourself in or you might never be able to show your face in any trails in N. America.
The costs add up when you try to race all the provincial cups and it can be tough protecting your rides when camping in an effort to save a few bucks...what about a secure indoor location for racers to leave their bikes with overnight security arranged by the race organizer (add $1 to each rider's registration to cover security)? The location would have to be like Fort Knox, but not impossible. Seems to work for multi-day bike swaps where there's $$$$ of bikes locked up over night. Also, check your contents insurance policy - lots of companies (including RBC in Canada) will add your bike to your policy for a couple of hundred a year and the bike is covered every where in the world...should be easy enough for kids who's parents have contents insurance...and I think the idea of registering your bike with your park pass is worth exploring.
Hope you guys get your rides back - that sucks big time!

They had that at a motorbike race in England but the watchmen were in on it, so thousands of pounds were gone by the next morning.
Tyler dude f*ck that sucks! And christophs V10!!!!! i joked about stealing that!!!! AND THEN IT GETS STOLEN!!! Brutal!
hey good luck guys! i got mine jacked awile ago and just got it back, you guys probably will aswel with the whole comunity of pinkbike keeping an eye out for it! stay possitive!

man, they should like plant some kind of homming thing inside the frame or something like what they do to dogs so they can find them via gps or something
apparently you can get something like that from vets if you ask but it doesn't locate it, it just identifies it when it is scanned. but they have those things that they put in supercars that can locate them, expect they'd probably cost more than the bike though otherwise they'd put them in all vehicles, its a good idea though
********** OK EVERYBODY LISTEN UP!!!!************
I am in the Kamloops area and am currently riding a CHROME 2009 NORCO TEAM DH that is similar to the one that was stolen. My bike has a complete 2008 drivetrain/shock/forks etc... because the frame was shipped as a warranty frame directly from Norco to replace a faulty 2008 frame. They had no 2008 frames and agreed to ship a 2009 frame. I HAVE PAPERWORK TO BACK IT UP
MY BIKE COULD EASILY BE MISTAKEN AS A STOLEN BIKE THAT WAS PIECED TOGETHER WITH 2008 COMPONENTS...... IT IS NOT!!!
Just thought I would post this as there are not a lot of these bikes around and I don't want some "good samaritan" trying to reclaim it from the back of my truck and be a hero...

smeckma... Not being ridiculous... just wanted to state that the norco isn't a rare bike in this area and mine looks a little oddball with 2008 components and could be taken as the stolen bike. It isn't...
jo3diablo... I posted a pic of my bike in my profile. Only have one older pic as I lost my camera at Whistler a couple weeks back...dammit
smeckma... again...I'm not really "going on about it". I only posted once and thought I would just clear it up that there is a similar bike in the kamloops area that is not the stolen Norco. They are kind of an original looking bike and I was concerned on being labeled a thief...that's all..

alright man i was just thinking y would u have pics of other bikes but not your team dh? sick bike btw lol
I didn't read every comment on here,so forgive me if this has been said already, but this is the second year in a row where bikes have been stolen from during the Race the Ranch. Getting your bike stolen sucks, and I feel for people, but people REALLY need to start taking more rigorous precautions to protect their ride. Pretty much, I think you need to sleep with it at night, and keep you ass in the saddle all day long.
this is bullshit... damn thieves. i had an accident of where my bike was missing, it feels horrible, like something is lost inside of you.. a part missing. like others said i think you should just sleep with the bikes(haha). but anyways.. really sorry to hear this. hope you guys find them.
Thieves should be made to return the bikes, or whatever is left of them.
AND
Have to pay the complete price of the whole bike, returned or not.
And NO comm service, the money and that's final.
this way, the bike is returned, and they are out of pocket $8000 or so

It was really tough heading home. My bike was still in Kamloops somewhere and I was leaving without my bike. pretty weird feeling. really sucks!
if i find them in socal i will personally dish out thier punishment then call you guys to finish the rest
there you go and doing that to them and actually forcing them to live like that would be a better punishment!

typical kamloops. every albertan knows that place is bike theft central. this happens every long weekend every year.
cheak crags list, ebay and that sorta thing. And take a drive around the north shore for awhile. You probebly won't find them though, they where most likley stolen by profesional theives. So like others have said alot of the parts will be stripped and/or repainted...
It's unfortunite that Kamloops is a mountain bike meca but also has one of the highest bike theft rates around.

Getting a bike stolen sucks sorry to hear that. I had my bike stolen a few years ago and found it posted on pink bike I contacted Pinkbike and was told they could not do anything about. I contacted the seller on my own and set up a meeting to purchase back my stolen bike. I had the police with me when I looked the bike over; we busted the kid and got my bike back. Maybe pink bike will be more responsive to complaints about stolen bikes being posted in the future.
wow, how low can these theifs get, i will pray that you guys will get your bikes back. I will be on the lookout
What a bunch of d bags hope they get there bikes back and the theifs get what they deserve! ill keep a lookout for those. a*sholeS!
Crime in Canada is out of control, I feel lucky to live in Oakland CA where a thing like this would never happen.
i thought BC is calm and a bit more thief free zone but them gypsies are everywhere. This should be warning to everyone that even chaining your bike wont help, so keep it close to you or at least where you can see it, the Balkan rules. good luck in finding those pearls !

They got sponsors.. So ? Theyll gonna get the same bikes.. or even better, as they always get FOR FREE ! Screw them !
Break the thieves spines at mid rib cage-they will survive but be paralyzed for life,or give 'em a buck wheat-ram them up the butt-hole with a severed shovel handle ripping their insides apart.
Don't want to do that. If you paralyze them then society has to pay taxes for them and take care of them for life. The best punishment is to make them work for society. I say slave labor in the worst jobs imaginable....for life.
Even prison is not a good punishment. So you do a bunch of bad stuff, and then, you go to a place where you don't have to worry where you are going to sleep, food is provided for you, etc. It's like a holiday.

i completely agree with you. i think we should get them to all dig trails for us and then make them live in the pits that they get the dirt from.
Brad from Taboo bike shop has offered to store bikes at his shop next year for people who are camping. I'll even store them at my house if that's what it takes.
BOOO! All Bike thieves will get caught, beware!
Keep at it guys, don't give up, most bike thieves are tards and slip up. Check all local classifieds, newspapers, buy/sell sites, anywhere one would think of selling a bike.
We had a few bikes stolen in Washington here and a lot of us got together to crack down and caught the bastards. Ended up being a couple of guys in their early 20's, posted the bikes up for sale on craigslist and ebay, both with parts swapped out.

i hate bike thieves man . they should be hung drawn and gutted then burnt in somewhere public by the bike owner . scumbags !!!!!!
wow that seriously sucks to get your ride stolen! but honestly, can u blame the theives for wanting such sick bikes?..... but then again they could go get jobs and save up! i just hope they get there bikes back in one piece.
so am i allowed to hulk smash these tards if i find any of em? i dont know if anyone has offered but if there is a printable version of the bike write ups i can hand them in to the pawn shops and other shady stores on the north shore here in the loops

this really realy sucks
I`ve heard of bikes stolen out of garages or shops at night, which is an evil thing to do and you can't do anything about it. But why did the thiefs get a chance to steal them at all? I mean. when i am out cycling i never have my bike out of sight. I'm too scared this could happen to me, even when i am alone in the forrest.
This is not ment to be an excuse for stealing bikes

There is nothing I hate more than a theif, possibly because I had my first Hoffman BMX stolen twice (once by force, once from my garage,) or maybe because Ive always had a job and I hate scum who try to capitalize on the hard work of others. Any number of possibilities, regardless thieves are scum and should be treated as such.
i hope bad carma comes and when there ridding the smoke a tree!
or the bikes get stolin from them!
some thing a long that line would be nice

I lost my bike due to trusting one of thos kriptonite locks. I got it back over a year later. it needed a major tune-up, but, I was more then happy to be riding it again. you just got to spread the word, I would have never got mine back if someone didnt find it for me.
They must have nicked the bikes to sell them and they're not going to be able to that with the everybody on PB knowing about the theft and people will recognise the bikes. Hope someone finds them!
sorry guys your bikes got nicked it happens up our way all the time my 2 sons aged 10 and 13 have both had bikes stolen nowhere near the expensive of these bike but it hits us just as hard when we have to buy new my oldest sons kona stinky07 and my youngest pk ripper bmx 08 and both of ours were not insured under house insurance id like to catch the bastards and smash thier thieveing fuc*ing heads in with a bat and i really hope you guys get your bikes back and have the rest of a great season come on boys

man that link totally matches up of course there are lots of Flatline Pro's out there but for that cheap??? I find that suspicious for sure.
I was the kid whos Flatline Pro got stolen and i was looking at this http://kamloops.en.craigslist.ca/bik/1222898050.html and since there hasnt been one Flatline Pro sold in Kamloops and the price was rediculously cheap i right away knew it was my bike. I phoned the police and 3 days later they had the guy in jail and i was on my way to Kamloops (from Victoria) to get my baby back. The bike was in good condition and by the sounds of it i was REALLY lucky to get it back. But for all the other guys who got there bike stolen i highly recommend you dont stop looking for them. Thanks -Tyler
