Rays MTB Milwaukee Grand Opening - Delayed

by Tyler Maine

Source: Rays MTB Milwaukee

Although we’ve made a lot of headway building our new park, unfortunately RaysMTB Milwaukee will not be opening this weekend as scheduled. Despite a furious work pace, we were unable to complete all the work in time to acquire all the permits from the City of Milwaukee. We’ll continue to work around the clock, and we look forward to riding with you at RaysMTB Milwaukee before Christmas. Please stay tuned to raysmtb.com for the most accurate Grand Opening reschedule.

Check out some of the first images of the new park below:

you want to know why (sadly) we can never have a skatepark or bikepark of this size in the UK?

land rental costs Frown

if you look at the availability of massive, affordable ex-warehouse spaces in the USA, this is why businesses like Ray's MTB can function

in the UK, the lack of spare land means that any warehouse-sized space is stupidly expensive, and when you put together a business model using these costs, it just does not work

believe me...we've tried, even with corporate backing (Coca-Cola) we could not make the business model work as the land costs are just too damn high Frown

As a Kid growing up in a climate where biking would stop in November and start in April (maybe) these types of facilities would be and are a blessing to those of us who love our two wheeled machines. Having said that I am glad that I now live on Van Isle in B.C and ride year round. Having said that I would still love to have an indoor park near by just to ride and be dry and warm.

There are 148 pages of photos in all categories for the state of Wisconsin. There are over 1700 pages of photos for just the freeriding category alone in California. I think ya'll should put one out here on the West Coast, I assure you it will make steady money all year round.

flag slofr66 (Nov 10, 2010 at 10:05)

  • + 3
flag Smokedog (Nov 10, 2010 at 11:00)
I agree that it would be sick to have one of these in Cali, but we do have a huge amount of natural terrain to ride where as in Wisconsin i think its substantially less abundant.

flag ritchierich (Nov 10, 2010 at 14:01)
You can ride year round in cali to, this is for the winter states!
  • + 2
flag downhilldj127 (Nov 10, 2010 at 15:50)
I realize that, I understand what you're saying, and yeah we're pretty lucky to be able to ride year round. But indoor parks are rare, and are, quite frankly, the shit. I live in an area where every single piece of land (within reasonable driving distance) is owned by someone, or is a nature preserve, or you name it. That being said finding a spot to build with quality dirt, a good area to actually build on, and where no one will find us is near impossible. Hours upon hours of my and my friend's hard work go to waste, when either a. we get some ridiculous fine/charges for building there, b. we go out to the spot one day and are jumps are destroyed (and get destroyed a second time after the first rebuild), or c. groms find it and tell all their other grom friends to come look at it, and pretty soon every kid knows where it is, and before we know it they are changing the features without permission so they can hit it. (And 1 of the 3 happens literally every time we build at a new spot). So I'm just trying to say that it would be nice to have more indoor parks around, the more spots to ride the better, and anyone regardless of skill or gromness can ride there without damaging it or "blowing it out." And it's pretty nice to be able to ride at night. Sorry for ranting.

we could totally use something like that around here.

1. heat factor in the summer --- it get pretty darn hot & humid here in the summer
2. during the winter -- it can get pretty nasty here in the winter -- what, 52" last year in a period of 2 days.

--- night riding is a bonus.

plenty of empty buildings around here I'm sure landlords would love to rent.

Florida would be nice, but with air conditioning, since it gets sickly hot here in the summer, with dreadful humidity.
We have skateparks, and some freeride (where we build it), but we need more, REALLY bad. LOL

Why does everyone want one is so. cal. Just put it outside. Live through a real winter like the poor saps in the midwest, and then you will realize why a place like this would work there. Put one in so cal and it would either be $100 per day or closed within 6 months. THe lease on a building that size is enormous, plus, why not just build it outside. If it is over 40*F you can ride outside! Some even ride below that mark.
