Sea Otter 2008 - The Wind picks up but the show goes on!
April 24, 2008Published by bruleAh the rain is holding off and the weather looks good-if you are Canadian. The wind at the Otter can be vicious at times and this year was no exception to the rule. At least mountain bikers are a rugged group as a rule and the show still went on.
Here's a look at some amazing bikes and parts from Santa Cruz, Commencal, Cannondale, Magura, Ibis and others that were on display this passed weekend: Santa Cruz Bicycles has been a long time favorite around the office and the new V10 that the Syndicate is racing on just makes me drool. By Greg Minaar's results from the weekend and watching Rennie and Peaty on them last season, this bike is ready to take a lot of podiums this season. Have a look at the V10 as it chilled in the Santa Cruz pits. The Blur LT has always been a hit since it debuted a few years back and there were a few excited folks checking out the newest rendition of the LT. Also we got a few requests for shots of the frame that Goldman and Voreis have been seen on lately, so here is Mr.Goldman himself with his current version of their new jump bike-expect a few more tweaks before it hits the market. Another exciting team we're seeing and reading lots about this year is Commencal. From the Athertons, to Cedric the Entertainer and now Canada's own Young Guns, you expect to see a lot of press coming out of this camp this year. Here is a look at the 2009 replacement for the Mini DH that the Athertons are repping along with Alex Pro's new rig. Our friends at Cannondale have been busy lately with their newest additions of the Rize and Moto-just check the release here. I finally got to stop by and talk to DD about the crazy looking green machine while he was setting up Mr.Riffle's new ride for the DH race. Doug did a lot of talking and I did my best to listen, but I tell you, those techs at Cannondale got some huge brains inside their skulls. We'll be doing our best to get one for testing in a few months time so that we can give you all the low down on the new 2 wheeler. Jude was busy wrenching at Magura, but he was able to point me in the right direction of the new goodies. Once I got to snooping, he told me about the new rear shock they are working with that uses a bladder (air bag) system for suspending us riders. It's a growingly popular set up among high end vehicle manufacturers, so I'm keen to see how it works with Mountain Bikes. As well as having the new rear shock, there was a fancy set of Marta SL Magnesium brakes on hand-even lighter than before. Magura was also showing their newest fork, the MT 140 AM Thor. This is for the 5 inch crowd looking for a light weight trail fork with enough stiffness that it won't shy away from real abuse. Some good old fashioned random shots of sick products and interesting friends: These pedals from twenty6 are among the most talked about these days on the net, so here's another shot of them at camp twenty6 Ibis was at the big show too with their super beautiful MOJO and MOJO SL frames. The newest addition to the crew, Mr.Lopes was also seen flying around on his new bikes. While I was in Alberta last I saw a lot of folks with these frames and I'm hearing a lot of great things in terms of ride quality. We're hoping to have one for late summer testing too-fingers crossed! Ok, I know that this has nothing to do with bikes, but I love 4x4's and they get a lot of us to the trail heads around here. At the Otter, Toyota had their new FJ series vehicles on hand for test drives. Since we are "International" visitors we were not able to drive the vehicles ourselves, but Jordan and I were able to sit in for a drive. Enjoy! More fury Sea Otter love to come, so stay tuned! -Tyler |

oh so sexy i love the v10
if I could afford it, I would buy them alllll
didn't like the santacruz video because they just filmed the guy and a little bit the bike and i couldn't understand anything...sry...my opinion
The santacruz are ok. I like the commencal a lot though. They look SICK
The v10 is not just ok. It's out of this world! SC is killing it these days.
That Atlas looks amazing. Too bad I have no use for it
RaceFace's new Atlas very interesting...
Very light crank.. Like a FSA Gravity Light..
who makes that chain guide that they had on the animal?
the letters "e-thirteen" across the top of it should point you in the right direction.
The guy in the first video acts like he has know idea what he's talking about...get a new spokesperson for the Santa Cruz gear, they deserve much better.
He was just a buddy of ours that really likes the bikes and is not a direct representative of SC bikes.
that's good, because if he was head of marketing or something similar like many other manufacturers use as a spokesperson at big events like this i would have some questions about their hiring process. no disrespect to the guy if he's just a SC fan that loves the bikes though.
im looking forward to that new santa cruz hardtail
commencal 4 life!!!!
I only have one question about the V-10 - after she is properly lubed, where do I insert my schlong?
Sic Commencal Mini DH..
All producers will to have in offer soon MiniDH bikes ..
