Sea Otter - Kore Components

Posted: May 7, 2009

Kore Components are based out of Seattle and have been in the game for a long time now. At the Sea Otter Classic, we were able to talk to Wick about their I-Beam seats and how they vary from other saddles.

Wicks talks about the railed saddle system for I-Beam set ups:

Yeah I really like the replaceable rails. I hate buying cheap saddles because I know that I will inevitably bend the rails have to replace it. Maybe a nice saddle is in my future.

cool saddle, but too bad that at this point, you'd have to buy a kore post to go with it as it'll be awhile before that standard catches on... if at all...

Actually,
If i remember correctly the Kore interface is the same as SDG, so your I Beam post should fit these ibeam seats.
I double check that before doing anything crazy though, it may be the other (Kore posts can hold ibeam seats)

ya i think these guys did a better job at creating the i beam seat because sdg made theirs out of plastic and i seen a few times where it get really hot and flexible when its out in the sun for a long time. it just slip like the bolts werent tightend

I already broke Kore I-Beam rail. It is made by some plastic that so weak when get hit by impact. Damnd! I sent the picture of broke Kore I beam saddle to Kore customer service but they never respond it! Suck!

they are quality, and light, i dont get the point in makeing a railed ibeam saddle. the idea is, no rails?
  • + 2
flag phobospwns (May 13, 2009 at 7:18)
the idea is to have the improved adjustability of the i beam system with the flexible comfort of a railed system, and it also allows the rail to be replaceable. it makes perfect sense.

i've been running an ibeam with a bell air for almost 2 years now, and when it beds in (which does take a while) you wont want anything else. I dont see how this has filled any sort of gap in the market.

flag spoiledgoods (May 13, 2009 at 9:23)
The fact that with your bell air (guessing its ibeam) if the rail break's, or cracks, you will be forced to buy a new seat.
This defeats that, and allows for cool customization of your seat rail.

SDG saddles are crap - the plastic beam is easy to break + as noticed by KORE - its very uncomfy to ride a saddle which does not provide any longtitudal flex. I had one, I was cursing a lot while riding AM and finaly broke it on DH becase i lost my pedals in rockgarden and landed with my ass on it. KORE looks way more convenient

flag trevpratt (May 14, 2009 at 22:31)
its longitudinal, and unless you snapped the saddle in half ive only ever seen the posts strip or break...

flag WAKIdesigns (May 15, 2009 at 1:05)
The SDG seat post is ok, but the beam in the saddle is definitely the weak point. I did not land it hard with my arse and the beam was just torn out and a piece of it was left in the seatpost. Offcourse the weight of the system is amazing - some seatposts are heavier than the whole SDG system - if it happens at the cost of durability - well ok, it's ok, but when it happens at the price of the comfort - no way.

Cool idea and all but seriously, how often do you break rails? I run I-Fly to carbon I-Beam post and have not had one issue with cracks, chips or malfunctions in the year and half I have had it. Kore is trying to fix a problem that doesn't really exist. By the time you break a rail it will be time to replace the seat. Oh well, they are anodized rails so I'm sure they will sell to people who only care about the colors...

This will be a good seat system for people who like, or have to, spin to the top of their local DH. Those SDG IBeams, though great, can be unforgiving after a couple of hours of riding.

I like concept but want to know what the weight is. Color choices are a nice option if you are into that. Curious about that magnesium version as well. Looks like a good shape for the saddle. I don't like the look of that post though. Looks chunky and unfinished. The SDG posts look better IMHO. Are they compatible?
