A top to bottom run on my personal favorite line down Gillard mountain in Kelowna B.C. Thanks to all the amazing trail builders who made Kelowna so amazing to ride. Forever in debt!
I agree, it is hard to hit everything well on Yo Momma. And yes, he drives a ford . . he also gets a brand new pair of Dorado's and takes off the stanchion guards. . . lame
Hence he's making a video to say thanks and to promote the good work of the locals and wants others to experience what we is proud of - whether he himself builds or not.
Yeah, but I'm sure there is also vids in the Vid section of guys who built the trails up at Gillard, riding them. But because they ain't rollmytruck, they don't get front page headlines.
Don't get me wrong, it's great to see he is proudly ripping ktown trails, but more dudes do it more often and help out the scene and all they get is a thank you from Steve on pinkbike. I think I've seen Steve at Tonics more than I have on any Kelowna trail, that's for sure.
Dude I'm sure if anyone made a video of themselves completely cleaning that run, in the same fashion as Romo did. It would make it on front page if they sent it in with a story or good caption to the Pinkbike powers. So Steve is a pro rider and has made a name for himself, so he's rolled a few pickups, so he enjoys some adult beverages, what are you on here bashing him for?
"Don't get me wrong, it's great to see he is proudly ripping ktown trails, but more dudes do it more often and help out the scene and all they get is a thank you from Steve"
I think that's a bit of a joke. Sure Steve is fast and good to rip with, but I know guys in Kelowna that rip just as fast, if not faster. And to boot, they build the trails there . . . For example, Jeff Rempel built Therapist and could easily keep up with Steve, Colby Gordon built Vapour and he can smash it to the power station, and he is 40+.
So why don't they get props? Look at Nato too; He was there building and going as big a Steve 7 years ago, but just because his name isn't Romaniuk, he doesn't get all the 'props'.
I'm not bashing on Steve for doing what he likes to do, I'm bashing on PB for running this story, even though there are guys world wide that put blood, sweat and tears into their trails, never have them shown until 'Steve Romaniuk' rides them. It's sad
I'm with Buhgina on this one, I think there is more to your story and complaints then stating and really you can keep your reasoning to yourself. Steve asked us to put this up as he wanted to say thanks, to me that's a big statement from any pro, be it DJer, Freerider, XC or DH racer. Just because he doesn't name anyone in particular, but rather says thanks to all, you seem hurt. Ya Nato is bad ass and so are lots of local builders and riders all over the world. THat's not what this is about, it's about one pro rider, being professional and saying thanks. If you don't like that, then maybe you should go for a ride.
The Vid of Romo is awsome.Hes an awsome rider and an all round good guy.He makes a living riding his bikes.People like myself make trails that make it possible for him to do this usually at our own expense. It was nice that he gave props to all the builders but it would be more apreciated if he actually got involved with the building and or maintenance of these trails. We have build days thru the club all the time and I never see him there.1 final note making vids of local trails also brings more traffic and wear and tear to our trails. So I dont see how this benifits us locals.
And further more to my point, (because it matters) - After how many years and he only now has a video saying thanks. And because of it, it's cool, and he doesn't have to build or help out the biking community because he says thanks on a video and get's you guys to post it. As a biking idol and roll model (Steve) to many, I just think there are far more diggers/riders that deserve the applaud because they actually put in the work so we can all ride, with or with out any media coverage.
Do you know the guy personally? Probably not, your just speculating based on rumors and gossip. An internet connection, it doesn't make you more stupid, it just makes your stupidity more accessible to others.
Yes trail builders and other riders do deserve more recognition. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, every time someone rips a trail built by another rider they recognize the effort put forth. Just because recognition is given in different forms, and especially not a form you personally approve of, doesn't mean it isn't valid.
I like how you ( Waldon ) reference Stund in your album in regards to the Addiction wall ride. Wasn't Stund a Romo deal? Why are you giving props to him and not the trail builders or other riders that ride it more often? Hypocrisy, it is pretty funny.
DirtDave, I understand the work put into our trails dude. I always think of the trail builders and maintainers after a good rip. More people shredding them, means more money spent in our city. So be it in the cycling industry, or tourism industry. The wheel must keep rolling. Sad but true, so sad but true. If you don't want trails being ripped by non locals or other people, build in the back country and keep them hidden, more fresh goodness, and less maintenance for one self.
That's some of the best Go-Pro footage i've seen, mounted to the chest is miles better than to the helmet from a viewing point of view. Super sik riding from Romo, and them trails were proper knar.Excellent piece of work.Props. Gringo.
Not true, I get good steady footage with no discomfort. Do you have it sitting right? It needs to be sitting on that flat bit right in the middle of your ribcage, to low or high and it will move around.
I was just going to ask the same thing. Really great vid, I love that POV. Hard to watch fullscreen though from all the shakiness but it really gives you such a sweet feeling of riding the bike.
