Canada’s Finest DH and XC Mountain Bikers Head to Sun Peaks for the Canada Cup and BC Cup Championships – August 22 and 23

Over 500 athletes will arrive at Sun Peaks Resort next weekend to test their mettle at the Canada Cup and BC Cup Championships, August 22 to 23, 2009.

Sun Peaks and the Canadian Cycling Association are hosting the Canada Cup Downhill (DH) Finals, the BC Cup Downhill #7 Finals and Championships and the BC Cross-Country (XC) Finals. Athletes from across Canada will pin it in the downhill course, or grind through the cross country course as they compete for the coveted first place.

The DH course features a very diverse design, including flowing machine-made berms, loamy single track with tons of roots, and loose dusty sections of trail, while the XC course has grueling climbs and technical descents.

Both events are fantastic for spectators! The cross country course loops around slopeside by the Coast Sundance Lodge, and the DH course finishes at the base area near Bento’s Day Lodge. But you don’t just have to sit on the sidelines. There are over 20 race categories, including a Citizen Class. Riders interested in competing in either the DH or XC races do not need to hold a 2009 Yellow or a Blue BC Citizen License. Riders can purchase a one-event membership which allows participants 13 years and up to compete. Riders entering this category will run the same race course as the other competitors and will be able to compare their race times against the other categories.

Volunteers Needed!

Canada Cup volunteers are needed to assist with course set-up and course marshaling. Call the Special Events Department at 250-319-7975 or email events@sunpeaksresort.com.

I'm one of the organizers. The course is closed for taping, nothing we can do about it. Its always been like that. Please respect the course closure, as we had a few riders out running down our vollies on course.

will the course be open.. say Wednesdqay opr Thursday.. just not marked? It seems kind of odd as the UCI normally requires the courses to be open for at least 2 days before the race for training, and canada cups normally follow the UCI guidelines.

Not too sure... ask Sun Peaks. I think they are working on it right now and its shut down, but its their course on their mountain so I don't know.

You were right. We had to wait no longer than 5 minutes in the line when it was busy. The next day there was never anyone in front of us. Great Mountain to ride!
